Big Brother season 16, episode 3 revealed more alliances as well as the first Battle of the Block competition! Read our recap to find out what happened.
Frankie and Caleb, the two HOH’s, revealed the private suite to everyone. Everyone is thrilled and Frankie is sure that he will get some quality bonding time with Caleb. They even decide to form an alliance and think that no one will suspect it. Before making decisions on their nominations, they decide to see how people act in the house.
Caleb decides they need to find some “soldiers” to bring into the alliance with them. Devin and Derrick are their first picks for the alliance. In the HOH room the boys rally and talk about forming an alliance. They decide they should also bring Zach and Cody into the group. Although Derrick doesn’t say anything to the guys, he reveals to the cameras that he doesn’t actually trust anyone yet.
The new alliance with Caleb, Frankie, Devin, Derrick, Zach, and Cody gets dubbed “The Bomb Squad.”
Meanwhile, the girls hang out on the lawn to talk nails and speculate what alliances are being formed. Nicole tells Christine that she will never throw her under the bus despite the tricks of the game. They think their glasses will fool people into thinking they’re weak.
The house is shocked when the TV screen announces that it’s nomination day. Frankie gets freaked out that it’s too soon. Despite the bomb squad, Devin pulls Donny aside and tells him their alliance is still on. But secretly he doesn’t really care about his alliance with Donny at all.
Caleb tells Frankie that he wants to nominate Brittany because he believes she’s fake. Frankie thinks he wants to put up the first two people who fell during the HOH competition, Brittany and Victoria. But Caleb wants to nominate Hayden as well. Frankie’s not so sure about that one.
To decide who does their nominations first, Frankie and Caleb have to crack an egg. Caleb goes first and then Frankie, but they do so in separate rooms without talking.
At nominations Caleb reveals he picked Donny and Paola for eviction. He tells them that he picked it off of who fell first from the HOH competition. Frankie reveals he picked Victoria and Brittany for the same reasons Caleb mentioned. Victoria can’t believe Frankie chose her and tears up right away. Despite hugging it out with the girls, Victoria says she no longer trusts Frankie.
Paola pulls Donny aside and tells him that they need to be strong for each other. They promise to fight for each other and Paola tells Donny he’s like a father figure to her.
Caleb tears up about what he had to do. The guys tell him not to beat himself up over it. Frankie pulls Victoria into the beehive to explain himself but she’s really not having it. He decides to place the blame on Caleb and says that he stole the nominees Frankie wanted to put up.
At 4:30 a.m. everyone is asleep except for Devin, Amber, and Christine. For some reason he decides to tell them about the bomb squad without asking anyone. He thinks they need to join the alliance and believes it’s a brilliant idea. They’re not sure why Devin trusts them but are down with joining the alliance.
So Devin goes off to wake up a confused Caleb and tell him about bringing Amber and Christine in. Even though he’s asking, Caleb really doesn’t have a choice since the girls already know about it.
The next morning Devin tells the rest of the bomb squad that he brought Amber and Christine in. Everyone is just as confused as Caleb was and are now worried about Devin becoming a problem. Derrick says it best when he calls Devin a loose canon. It’s clear that the guys are regretting working with him.
As Donny is cracking up some of the other house guests with his joke, Devin walks in. This makes Devin paranoid that Donny is going to steal the money right out from under his nose. He tells the bomb squad that Donny is scaring him with how he’s making so many friends. He’s also convinced that Donny is lying about being a groundskeeper. Frankie is sure that Devin is having a meltdown. Zach tells Devin that he’s being a little too paranoid about someone he sees not having a lot of power.
Later, at the Battle of the Block, the house guests get all dressed up in tuxedos and gowns. In order to take themselves off the chopping block, and dethrone the HOH that nominated them, one team must beat the other. This week they must swing back and forth and pass liquid to one another in flute, the first to fill up their giant flute wins.
It’s Donny and Paola vs. Brittany and Victoria! But first they have to figure out how to get their swing’s going. Paola has the most trouble and she blames not having been on a swing since she was six. Meanwhile, Donny has fun swinging while he waits for his teammate to get going. From the start Victoria and Brittany get a good pace going and start filling their flute. However, Paola can’t figure out how to stay on her swing.
In the end Victoria and Brittany win the Battle of the Block, which means that Frankie is dethroned and Caleb is the last HOH standing.
