Here are the highlights from Grey’s Anatomy season 10, episode 21, “Change of Heart”:
Meredith and Owen worry about Cristina when she doesn’t show up for the flight home. When they get back to the hospital, Meredith is very bitter about Cristina’s loss and takes it out on April.
Derek is surprised when his sister Amelia shows up unannounced. She has news that she’s recently become engaged and is freaked out about it. To help, he leaves her with the kids for the day. He and Meredith decide to take advantage of having a babysitter and make a date in the OR.
Callie and Arizona try to plan when they’re going to try and get pregnant. But April awkwardly butts in (because she’s crashes at their place) and it becomes clear that she’s over stayed her welcome. At work April can’t stop obsessing about the fight and talking about it with everyone. Owen manages to make her feel better about it.
Without calling anyone, Cristina arrives at the hospital just in time for surgery. She tells them all that it was an honor just to be nominated for the Harper Avery Award but it’s not very convincing. The surgery doesn’t go as planned when the heart transplanted doesn’t start beating despite a perfect method. Luckily, UNOS finds another heart that’s a match.
Alex breaks the news to Arizona that he’s planning on taking a new job and is relieved when she doesn’t yell at him. But when they get a on a plane to pick up the new heart she wants to talk about it. Alex goes on the defensive and tells her he needs to think about himself. But he feels bad when Arizona says she just wanted to share a memory because she’s going to miss him.
Richard goes to Boston to visit Catherine. But he has an ulterior motive to find out why Cristina didn’t win. After arguing about it, Catherine reveals the truth. It didn’t matter that Cristina’s research was better than the rest. She couldn’t win the award because the hospital she works for is owned by the same foundation that gives the awards.
He accuses her of using Cristina to bring publicity to the hospital. Catherine reminds him that there wouldn’t be a hospital without the foundation. During their argument Richard reveals he came to Boston to propose to her. He leaves her the ring but leaves without waiting for a response.
Unfortunately, Cristina is only able to save one of the two sisters. When she breaks the news to the parents they blame her for redirecting the transplant from one sister to another. Owen worries when she disappears again but finds her in the break room. But Cristina isn’t worried about the decision she made. He breaks the news that Richard learned from Catherine and she walks out.
As the board is meeting about the cuts that the Harper Avery Foundation wants them to make on research, Alex interrupts them. He breaks the news that he’s been offered a new job and intends to take it once his fellowship is up.
Derek and Meredith arrive home to find the house and Amelia a mess. She’s worried that she couldn’t even make it one day watching the kids and taking care of the house.
Jackson apologizes to April for their argument. He wants to work through their problems instead of giving up. But April says she can’t get passed his judgement views on her beliefs. And breaks the news that their problem isn’t hypothetical anymore because she’s pregnant.
