X-Men: Days of Future Past director Bryan Singer has been accused of sexually abusing a teenage boy in a lawsuit filed Wednesday.
The director of Fox’s massively anticipated X-Men: Days of Future Past is being accused of abusing a 17-year-old in a lawsuit filed in federal court in Hawaii today.
Update: Bryan Singer’s attorney, Marty Singer, has called the lawsuit “absurd and defamatory.” He states, “The claims made against Bryan Singer are completely without merit. We are very confident that Bryan will be vindicated.”
The plaintiff reveals that he was 17 when director Bryan Singer “forcibly sodomized him,” along with other allegations. The plaintiff, Michael Egan, published his name in a press release, which accuses Singer of providing him with illegal drugs and alcohol and flew to Hawaii to be with him on multiple occasions in ’99.
Digital Entertainment Network’s former chairman Marc Collins-Rector was also named in the lawsuit. He’s being accused of initiating the sexual assault and for arranging Bryan Singer to sexually abuse the plaintiff at a house in California.
Collins-Rector has a past linked to sexual abuse and is a registered sex offender. He plead guilty to luring minors across state lines in 2004 to commit abuse.
Egan has hired attorney Jeff Herman, who is a national sex abuse attorney who has represented victims in the past who have been reportedly abused by other celebrities.
Herman released a statement about the lawsuit, saying, “Hollywood has a problem with the sexual exploitation of children. This is the first of many cases I will be filing to give these victims a voice and to expose the issue.”
The plaintiff is reportedly seeking an unspecified amount in damages in the civil case filed today.
The timing of the lawsuit is unfortunate, as the cast and crew will soon be starting a global promotional tour for X-Men: Days of Future Past, which hits theaters May 23. It’s unknown whether this will affect Singer’s involvement with future X-Men projects.
Bryan Singer or his representatives have yet to release a statement concerning the allegations. We expect to hear something from 20th Century Fox concerning the lawsuit within the next 24 hours.
