NBC used Saturday’s primetime Olympics coverage to announce that Heroes is coming back with a new miniseries.

A press release was issued right after the commercial made the initial announcement on television.

Heroes Reborn is set to make its debut in 2015 as an “event miniseries” with original creator and executive producer Tim Kring in charge of its rebirth. The show has a 13-episode order.

“The enormous impact ‘Heroes’ had on the television landscape when it first launched in 2006 was eye-opening,” said NBC Entertainment President Jennifer Salke in a press release.

She continued, “Shows with that kind of resonance don’t come around often and we thought it was time for another installment. We’re thrilled that visionary creator Tim Kring was as excited about jumping back into this show as we were and we look forward to all the new textures and layers Tim plans to add to his original concept. Until we get closer to air in 2015, the show will be appropriately shrouded in secrecy, but we won’t rule out the possibility of some of the show’s original cast members popping back in.”

We’re glad to hear that NBC won’t be afraid of bringing back original cast members. Who’s on your wish list?

Watch the promo that premiered during the Olympics below:

Before Heroes Reborn’s premiere, NBC will launch a digital series that will “introduce the characters and new story lines.”

Heroes ran on NBC from 2006 – 2010.

Will you eagerly anticipate the limited return of ‘Heroes’?

  • Mark

Wow. I wonder how many of the cast will come back.

    • Hadas

Same question! I gotta catch up on it I stopped watching mid season 2 I think.

      • Dan

Didnt miss much, it went down hill quick after season 2…

  • bhfubcua

    This better be legit.

    • Stephanie Carlson

NBC announced this during Olympics coverage, so, I’m guessing yes.

  • christi-anne Mbe

Oh wow this is cool I guess

  • me

    • Tabitha Byrd

      yummylicious yes please.

    • Alexandre

and Ali Larter! The two best actors of the show <3

    • Felicia Hardy

YES, and Hiro :3 …. and Peter because he’s hot but yeah…

      • ms. elephante

omg if hiro doesnt show back up i’ll rage

        • Derp

Sorry, but he’s on Hawaii Five-O.

          • http://kathryynmerteuil.tumblr.com/ Sasha

I don’t think you can rule out any of the cast as being out due to previous commitments. I mean, Tim Minear said a limited Firefly revival could work around THAT cast’s previous commitments. And besides, he could show up as guest star (similar to say, George Takei in the first season).

        • Brimur

He confirmed on twitter he would

    • Erika Raine

As long as they dont do the whole “i have everyone’s powers that ever existed!”

    • RamblingBabbles

Dammit! If only they didn’t kill Kristen Bell’s character. I really liked her as opposed to the other lame characters they introduced later on in the series.

    • Chaz

If he isn’t back on the show… I really dont know.

To be completely honest, they HAVE to explain the cliffhanger. I really dont see how they cant. 13 45-50 min epiosdes and they cant devote at least one of them to resolving the previous storyline.

  • Miguel Meza

Hayden Panettiere, Zachary Quinto, Ali Larter and Masi Oka. I don’t care much about the others!

    • Janeth Gutierrez

These and Milo Ventiniglia, Adrian Pasdar, and Jack Coleman as well!

      • Miguel Meza

Yeah those too, I forgot about Peter, Nathan and Noah. It’s just that the abilities of the ones I mentioned are my favorites.

        • Felicia Hardy

SO, basically the whole cast… But I agree completely hahaha

          • Miguel Meza

            Pretty much, hahaha!

    • Kennedy

Ali Larter, best actress of the show

  • Daniel Lee Collins

    Hell yea!!

  • Elisa

    PLEASE PLEASE bring back Sylar!!!!

  • RCC

  • Lucas Colvara da Cunha

    • Hiro

Save the cheerleader save the world.

  • Alexandre

  • Cheri Trigg

This is so great! Claire, Hiro, Sylar, the Patrellis and Noah!! For sure!

  • http://kathryynmerteuil.tumblr.com/ Sasha

I’m hoping for a new cast. I watched the first season of Heroes a few months ago and adored it. The second season I tolerated. The show was dead to me the second they gave Mohinder powers. Bring in the old cast as guest stars, but Heroes became a joke. Start fresh.

    • ryan

I couldn’t agree more. They could’ve left at least 1 important character without powers. and yeah…it went downhill after that. Start a new! But seeing old cast would be awesome.

      • Language Police

        Anew is one word.

    • CliveRogan

Their biggest mistake was to not have a new cast for season 2 as they’d originally planned. Season 1 was tight, each character had an arc with a beginning, middle and end that concluded in that final episode. After that, they just wandered around bumping into each other, losing powers, gaining powers, retconing siblings and/or how they have powers, it was just an incoherent mess.

I get that people like these characters and actors but it’d be better to see them in other things where they have a chance to do something new and interesting allowing room for a new cast and characters to love.

  • http://tyrionical.tumblr.com/ Kyle

  • Alex Cooke

    Claire! Peter! Syler! Definitely Syler.

  • Becky Cooper

All of them!! But definitely have to have Hayden and Milo they were THE stars and I would LOVE an ELle reveal where it turns out that Sylar didn’t actually kill Kristen Bell’s character!! Lol

  • heroe ♥

Zachary Quinto, Milo Ventimiglia, Hayden Panettiere ♥

  • matthewhpg

Awesome! Now let’s take that idea of bringing back a classic science fiction show to television and apply it to Firefly

    • David Sullivan

Funnily enough I think the push that might finally prompt a Firefly resurrection isn’t going to be this but the big Star Wars comeback in a couple of years’ time… given that Disney are planning across-the-board Star Wars coverage with new spinoff movies and TV shows, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Fox wanting a space opera of their own and taking advantage of Firefly’s pre-existing fanbase to secure a similar “13 episode miniseries” or something. At least, it would be nice… but I do suspect that too much time has gone by and I can’t see all of the original (surviving) cast reuniting, sadly.

      • Bones

When You said surviving cast I had a miniature panic attack thinking one of the actors died…then realized you meant the characters that had died…

        thanks for that.

  • http://blackrapture.tumblr.com/ thegoodshipdestiel

    Thank you SciFi jesus!!

  • Geekoftheweek

Please bring back all the main characters. Like, hayden panettiere, zachary quinto, milo ventimiglia, etc. I watched all four seasons and I am curious as to where they’re going to take it from that little ending. I won’t spoil it for those of you who haven’t seen it, but let’s just say, it’s a little bit of an x-men moment…

  • serenityq2

havent seen ali larter or masi oka in years pretty much since the show ended so they should have no problems being available. interesting day. was not expecting this ever lol. got a lot to look forward to in 2015

    • Nazreen1810

You can see Masi Oka in Hawaii Five-0

    • Tehkella Neverwinter

Masi Oka is the coroner on Hawaii Five-0. Has been since the start!

  • Nick Wally Germaine

miniseries? does that mean like… short episodes? :(

If it’s coming back with full episodes, I’m excited. This and firefly were the only two shows I’ve ever gotten into. Me and the wife used to watch heroes every night. I will love this, and I expect sylar to be back (he was always my favorite)

    • ThatsVeryFunny

Maybe not short episodes, but a short season?

    • David Sullivan

I think they mean full-length episodes and “miniseries” just refers to the series being 13 episodes rather than a full 20-to-24 episode season. Admittedly I find the naming a bit odd (especially as a British viewer who is used to full-length seasons being as short as 3 episodes!) but I wouldn’t worry about it too much. :)

      • humanbeing

Maybe the mini-series is a concept that only really took off in America (and apparently many of the younger people posting on this site don’t remember), but back in the 1970s and 1980s, a number of really great “mini-series” were released (like the original V, North and South, etc) that something in-between a television series and a theatrical film. The mini-series was usually an epic-type story which featured too much storyline to fit into a two-hour long movie, but wasn’t open-ended and long enough to warrant giving it it’s own ongoing series. They were usually self-contained stories (often based on popular novels of the time) and were usually shown as heavily-promoted television “events”. As time went on, the mini-series eventually fell out of favor (but the model for the mini-series was eventually adopted by many cable networks in how they structured their shows, like The Sopranos, The Wire, Game of Thrones, etc…those shows also took their cue from British television, which would create shows that only lasted a limited number of episodes but had a beginning, middle, and end, a sense of closure, and a sense of being a unified whole).

  • Tara McKenna

its about damn time they bring back one of the best shows ever made on tv

  • ms. elephante

ugh this show used to be my LIFEBLOOD :’)

  • http://hunyumstan.tumblr.com/ hunyum

am i the only one screaming, “dEAR GOD PLEASE NO.”
I would rather see Firefly make a comeback.

  • Charlie214

Please bring back Hiro, Peter, Claire, and Syler (sp). Although, I bet Zachary Quinto will not be available since his movie career as taken off.

  • Shadowstare

With only a 13 episode order, this could be good.

  • jh1289

I really want to see Claire, Peter, and the mono-brow villain again.

  • Tanya

Wow this made my day serious. Bring back Hayden!!!! Hopefully it won’t clash with her Nashville show. And Milo! My two favs! Sigh I can’t believe this is happening!

    • Tanya

  • Sean Leavitt

Bring back Angela Petrelli! She was so awesomely nasty!

  • Jared Clontz

    Every one

  • Derek_anny

    Who’s my dream return-cast?
Ali Larter, we haven’t met Melissa yet.
    Mr Boom himself, Zachary Quinto.
Ashley Crow. Because Sandra.Bennet is a badass.

  • liaaaaaaaaaam

holy s**t! we wat sylar! and peter!

    ALAS!!!!!!!!!!!!!GREAT GODS GIVE ME SILER!!!!!!!!!!!

  • oldmanlochinvar

Another example of no original ideas anymore. Hey, superhero movies are doing great why don’t we retread the same thing we did earlier.

Sadly American audiences will lap it up.

    • David Sullivan

Oh yes, tragically people will enjoy something that they have been asking to happen for years. I do get the “Hollywood has run out of ideas” argument but when there is genuine interest I don’t think it’s a problem, either… the motive on the part of the network might be to cash in on a popular trend but uh, so because the show is more likely to succeed and there is a ready-made audience of fans who will make the show a somewhat easy sell, it shouldn’t be made?

  • Ryan ‘Ryman’ Clark

As long as they leave out time travel. Teleportation was cool, but once they started spamming time travel, the story got really stupid. The Sylar portion of the story was probably the best until they turned him into an Anti-hero and removed Peter’s original power(s). Two peoples with incredible powers duking it out would make for an epic series finale.

  • katemarie89

    So freaking stoked about this!

  • SLP

Hmm. Maybe now I need to finish the last seasons. I watched religiously the first season but the show went downhill when Peter lost his powers Sylar got too much power. It got to be too inconsistent. They also focused on Sylar too much that it defeated the whole purpose of a show titled “heroes” when the villain becomes too big. Maybe a miniseries would be better for the show.

  • AndyHartley

It’d be cool if they introduce all new characters, but with Zachary Quinto hunting them down or something. And don’t be afraid to kill main characters off please.

  • Sam

Wooooooooooowwwwww. I’m really surprised! I was actually just thinking about “Heroes” the other day, because I loved it when it first started but felt that after a while it lost it’s original touch. If they can do this right, I’m excited! :) I loved the original plot and the characters… it was so good! It reminds me of how I feel now about “The Walking Dead.” I hope they have some original characters but it doesn’t have to be all of them. Looking forward to new info in the future!!!

  • Hieroz

hope this “reborn” series will add much more action rather than unnecessary drama… more heroic protagonist rather than a whimp main character, last, stronger plot,

  • GabriGray

i’m rooting for Sylar, hands down one of the the best villains to ever grace the small screen. I’m hoping they won’t have time to present a new villain in 13 episodes anyways, so they’ll stick with an old one.

    • Hi

My thoughts about Sylar exactly. (You sure you can’t read minds?)

  • Jay Banks

I’d love it if some of the lesser known characters made appearances. I’m looking at you Monica (Dana Davis) and Elle (Kristen Bell)…

    • Jon Chant

      despite elle being dead?

      • Jay Banks

        Heroes *Reborn*?

        • Jon Chant

its not a reboot or reimagining. and if anyone was to be resurrected, I’m sure there are countless others than elle who could come back, I’d prefer adam monroe

          • Hi

Adam is actually a really cool character. He has a interesting back story and he’s just basically really interesting. It’d be awesome for him to come back.

    • http://kathryynmerteuil.tumblr.com/ Sasha

I’d love Monica to come back as a full-time cast member. It was a mistake to let her go. She was one of the few redeeming things in the second season.

  • http://xyue-mayx.deviantart.com/ Dreamer

YES! Oh my god. I hope it’s as good as season 1 please! I would love to see Peter, Claire, Hiro, and Sylar show up, but not as main characters. At first I was disappointed that they were bringing in a new cast but now i think that could turn out really good. A couple guest appearances by old cast members would tie it back to the original and create some buzz (especially if Zarchary Quinto’s in it since he so huge right now!)

  • David Sullivan

I loved the original show in its early run but even though I continued to watch, the series tied itself in knots and I feel like this is an opportunity for a fresh start in that regard. It doesn’t have to be a total reboot, but keep the last couple of seasons in “broad strokes” so we can ignore some of the stranger elements and continuity errors (like the whole mess with the eclipse, and everything related to the inconsistent timeline). Keep time travel out of it (unless you’re going to have consistent “rules” for it, with consequences), no more healing blood that can revive the dead and no more ability theft (whether of the Sylar, Peter or Arthur varieties) because all you ended up with were overpowered characters who acted like morons because they never used their myriad of powers when it might be useful. There’s definitely potential but the original run squandered a lot of it through short-sighted storytelling that ruined any chance at consistent worldbuilding. Call me cautiously interested at this point.

  • andrew ferris

Yeah… I am thinking this will have nothing to do with the original and probably none of the old cast will return. And they shouldn’t.
I got so sick of the really stupidly bad excuses to keep Syler alive and in the series and just forgive him for brutally murdering hundreds of people for selfish gain. The guy got what… 3… 4 fitting deaths? But you got idiots still wanting that stupid character back rather than develop anything new.
The series back plot utterly collapsed back in on itself, the horrendous mess that was caused by the writing strike and rushing the second season could never be undone.

Heroes was originally supposed to be about a revolving cast. Instead you ended up with a core cast of invincible immortals who would be put in “danger” but… you know.. never really… and then you had a bunch of people who would be introduced each season and die terrible deaths (almost always at the hands of the same character) by the time the season ended– or in the first two episodes of the next. Except for the couple kids that they just sort of randomly forgot about. It stop being effective or entertaining the moment one caught onto that.

Lost had much the same formula, but it had more mystery and intrigue going on around it and its answers were typically more satisfying than those in Heroes. I don’t see any benefit coming from reviving the concept.

Hell, I think I’d rather see Flashforward or V revived. I think there was more potential there.

    • ABrine

      Go with V

  • Graham Banzer

damn! my bluray box set will be no longer complete!

but hell, everybody better be back – cant leave us on a cliffhanger or with a promo for the next season at the end of the last episode and not do it. biggest mind-fuck ever!!

    that being said….aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh #HEROESREBORN

  • David Sullivan

I’m in the camp of “keep most of the old cast to cameo appearances”, sadly… not that they weren’t mostly fine actors (they were), but again, I feel like the series dug itself into too many holes and if this miniseries is going to succeed, it will do best to ignore that baggage. Sylar should have died at the end of Season 1 (I love Zachary Quinto but his Season 3 “the lost Petrelli son” arc was inane and his repeated attempts at redemption/surviving seemingly-fitting deaths just became tiresome) and too many other characters were spoiled by poor storylines (Mohinder, Ando) or didn’t develop convincingly (Hiro, Claire). I wouldn’t mind seeing HRG again in a prominent role but either way, keep the non-powered characters, non-powered… and not necessarily villains, either.

    • ABrine

They so should have let Syler die, it would have been a far stronger dramatic conclusion.

  • 7Starrchasers

    YESSSSS :’)!!!!!!!!!

  • Sky

hell yeah! got really mad after they discontinue it.

  • Sandro Emanuela

Sylar, Claire, Hiro and a fullpower Peter =)

    • ABrine

True that, what they did to Peter was such a cop out, doubly so with his father getting all his stored powers his father should have had to collect his own powers.

  • justafan

  • http://www.aleeya.net/ Erica Ann

Milo Ventimiglia is Hot! I hope he comes back. Also loved Hayden Panettiere and Ali Larter (She was good in Resident Evil Forgot which one 3? Also)

  • Brandon Phillips

    I won’t watch without Angela Petrelli…

  • Jake

Τhis means that it will be only a season of 13 episodes?

  • DasVON

Sylar, Claire Bennet, Hiro and Noah Bennet

  • Sara Jung-Claßen

  • CP

SYLAR! (Though I somehow doubt Quinto’s up for it.) Also, Hiro!

  • LiaCavasotto

If Hiro isn’t in it then it’s a mistake. My real questions though are wether its starting where the show left off, or somewhere during the season. I mean the end of the show was kind of a big thing and if theres a possibility of bringing in familiar characters then it has to be somewhere in the original time stream right? Unless Hiro can travel between universes now :P I’m excited… but very wary.

  • HiroIsTheBest

    Masi Oka as Hiro Nakamura

    • 123

HIRO! Heroes without Hiro is just not Heroes at all. If they don’t bring back Hiro then they’d better watch out…

  • Lily

this is the best news I’ve heard all day!

  • hi

    Micah! Hiro!

  • Deth Wilson

Sylar was awesome as a bad guy and i’d like to see him back but Hiro was who mad the show for me. A nerd turned hero with the best powers of them all. If Hiro doesnt return, then i wont watch it.

  • Ande Anderson

I AM SO EXCITED!!!! I have been waiting for this since the show ended! Will we finally get some sort of closure? I’m just so excited!

  • Tomas

MUST BE INCLUDED: Claire, Peter, Hiro

  • Munky

  • Samantha

    Zachary Quinto and Milo Ventimiglia!!!!!!!!!!

  • Cguy

Holy fucking shit! Can’t wait! Hope it’s as good as the first season.

  • Ultron

I take it this was a good show? :o

    • http://kathryynmerteuil.tumblr.com/ Sasha

First season was brilliant, but it went downhill from there. The Big Bang Theory, of all things, has mocked its lack of quality in the later seasons.

  • humanbeing

Whoo-boy…where to begin? Heroes was, for me at least, an extremely disappointing viewing experience. It was a show that started off with loads of potential, and then fairly quickly devolved into mind-numbing nonsense. It started to feel like there were three or four different rooms full of writers, all separated from each other, all writing their own visions of the show that didn’t agree at all with what the other writers were creating; no one was on the same page at all. The shows continuity became so laughably bad, and the show’s budget kept slipping so much (I can remember the producers having to stage fights off-screen, because they had no more money to spend on special-effects). I personally feel like the creator of the show, Tim Kring, actually did the most damage to the show; he wasn’t a comic-book fan, didn’t seem to realize how the heroic myth (Joseph Campbell-style) worked at all, was too afraid to actually kill characters off and replace them with new ones that could broaden the scope of the story, and the worst sin was that Kring seemed to have no idea what to do with the show (sometimes he seemed to be of the opinion that he should ignore what the fans wanted, and then when that didn’t work out he did a complete 180 and seemed to spitefully create storylines only based on fan-favorites, but which resulted in the worst kind of fan-service stories that read more like fan-fiction than a professional writer’s work). And I could go on and on about the show’s problems, but to sum it all up, the people who worked on Heroes basically took a hit show with a great cast and an engaging story and screwed it up, multiple times.

And now Kring wants to bring the show back. It’s interesting that he’s choosing to do it in the form of a HBO-season-style shortened length, a mini-series rather than a regular series. There are quite a few advantages in doing things this way; all of the episodes can be completed before the show airs, so there aren’t any flubs in continuity (the story can be structured as one complete whole, with a beginning, middle, and end – most network shows have to do so much juggling of plotlines and continuity because they basically make up the storylines as they go along, whereas cable shows often create and film their entire seasons before the shows even air, removing issues about whether or not the show will be cancelled half-way through the story, etc). Also, with only 13 episodes and a more structured story, the budget can be upped considerably (and producers will know ahead of time how much they’ll need for special effects and can adjust the story accordingly, just like making a movie).

There are still a lot of negatives surrounding the project, though; the fact that Tim Kring is running the show (with none of the better writers from the past, like Bryan Fuller, who in all actuality was probably the one who made the show really good in Season One, not Kring). Also, it’s extremely doubtful that any of the original cast members will come back (almost all of them have different gigs on different shows now); although maybe that negative could be turned into a positive, and the mini-series could do what the show never had the guts to do and show a completely new cast of characters. In general, I’m simply hoping that the show will finally make some sense of the mythic under-pinnings of just how these characters got their powers (something never explained in the original run of the show) and will manage to tell a self-contained, interesting story that doesn’t contradict itself (not too difficult a task, really).

    • Hi

If you dislike heroes so much then why bother finding this page and making a long comment about how and why heroes is so bad?

  • Nat

  • Jo Belle

Even the fourth season was shit (I couldn’t even get half way through it), I’m really excited for this.

  • Guest101

is this even a question!?!? I would have Hayden Panetrierre, Jack Coleman, Milo Ventimiglia, Ali Larter, Christine Rose, Greg Grunberg, James Kyson Lee, and Masi Oka!!!!! ALL OF THEM!!!! And if you could surprise me with Zachary Quinto, Sendhil Ramamurthy and Adrian Pasdar I would love you forever! ;) k tnks!!

  • amy

ohhh plss milo ventimiglia for sure !

  • TORI

  • elou

Claire hiro mika and peter if they return ill be very happy

  • JAKE

  • Loire Arshtell

  • Hayden suckmypanetierre

Straight raging boner right meow! But in all honesty I hated hiro story line the mossssst.

  • Teiji

Bring back Peter Petrelli with all of his badass abilities!!

  • yayita

    peterrrrrrr!! and sylar

  • Georgi

    Hiro, Claire, Micah, Matt, Sylar

  • gennyQ

They have to bring back Adrian Pasdar as Nathan somehow. One last time travel to undo what Sylar did. I have to have my Petrelli brothers. That relationship was the best on the show. Besides…what they did to Adrian Pasdar at the end…they owe him this IMO. Especially since SYLAR, a villain in a show about heroes, was allowed to live. That sucks.
I want a replay of that final fight with Sylar, Nathan, and Peter, with Nathan winning this time.
Sylar went WELL past his expiration date.

  • yoshi

what they need to do is bring elle back using claire’s ability, have peters power ‘evolve’ back into his original make sylars dad the villain( meaning he obtains the regen power) make the characters fight with powers more and better, make hiro not so… just make him not screw with time so much. I think hiro should be able to reverse time rather than time travel, i mean the whole butterfly effect thing was downright annoying.

  • Annie

Will the same actors return! ‘Cause if not, I ain’t watching :/

  • Bay

Ando! My fav character that acquired super powers.. nvr did lead up to him killing hiro. I would of preferred an ending where they start up a task force.. w/ Mica in charge of communications. Peter leading, Claire as an agent with her father, Hiro overseeing future threats with samurai look, Nathan as the president backing up the task force to make the country a better place, Parkman in charge of confinement for the extremely dangerous.. maybe having Nikki developing water powers after ridding herself of her alter-personality and teaming up with Claires mom.. Sylar definitely dying concluding all the epic drama in the beginning. Mohinder nvr getting powers and finding cures for mankind..my fav power was always painting the future.. dont know how to tie it in though..

    • 123

Seeing future to tell them where they need to be? Could work, Hiro wouldn’t be able to tell all the time about the future.

  • Boom

Sylar, Micah and Hiro+Ando (Also what happened to Molly
? Because i think that Matt just kind of ditched her.)

  • Boom

    Peter too.
