Ever wondered what Ichabod would do if he saw a huge metropolis or anything more than just the town of Sleepy Hollow? Well, executive producer Roberto Orci has a few answers for you!
In a new interview with TV Guide, Orci says that it’s almost inevitable that Sleepy Hollow‘s Ichabod Crane and Abbie Mills will see more of the world.
“It’s the beginning of expanding the reach of the storytelling. Also, not just for the mythology and evil coming to town, but Ichabod seeing the rest of the world is just a fascinating thing to do,” Orci explains. “He’s only seen [so little] of our modern society through the lens of a town that resembles his own town to a great degree, except more Starbucks. Opening it up is absolutely something we hope to do.”
In fact, the show runners knew they wanted to expand on the settings and world of Sleepy Hollow from the get go, but decided to not do so much exploring in the first season. “We figured out about four episodes in that we were going to forego the temptation to leave this town, except for Irving in Albany, and really focus on Sleepy Hollow.”
We’re glad they refrained; as awesome as it sounds to have Ichabod leave Sleepy Hollow and see the world around it, this first season brought us the foundation of the story and the setting, so it makes sense that they wanted to stay in the town’s limits.
Ichabod Crane has managed to adapt fast to the world of technology and change, but there are still so many things that the show runners can put in front of him that will truly just blow Ichabod out of the water.
Orci explains further: “He’s been in this town the whole time and he’s adapted very well, but I’d like to see his reaction the first time he gets on an airplane. We were joking that he thinks, ‘Oh, are we driving all the way there in this thing?’ And then the plane takes off. Imagine seeing the White House and all the stuff that he never got to see that are the fruit of his labor and his sacrifice. Things like that will blow his mind.”
Sleepy Hollow season 2 is going to have some fantastic Ichabod moments! The show will return next fall, but the premiere date is yet to be announced.
