UPDATE: Read our Downton Abbey recap!

The synopsis for Downton Abbey season 4, episode 5 reads, “A birthday party is planned for Robert, but Rose’s surprise contribution to the event ruffles feathers above and below stairs. A new farming venture on the Downton estate comes with dramatic repercussions for Mary, and Edith receives more unwelcome news.”

A trailer for episode 5 teases all of the items described in the synopsis above. Take a look:

In a clip from the episode we see Tom, Mary, and Isobel sitting together with the children discussing the loves of their life – all of whom have passed. It’s one of the more bittersweet moments of the episode, and a special bond that the three hold. It makes us wonder: How could Tom want to leave Downton when he has such close ties to people like Mary and Isobel?

Last week’s episode ended on a bit of a cliffhanger when Bates swore that – despite Anna getting somewhat back to normal – he is still after her rapist and will find whoever did it. Another surprise concerning that storyline will appear in episode 6, as you’ll see when the trailer airs tonight.
