HBO has just announced that Game of Thrones‘ season 4 release date is set for April 6, 2014.

The Game of Thrones season 4 trailer will be revealed this Sunday immediately before the series premiere of True Detective starring Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey.

UPDATE: Girls is also getting love today. The show has been renewed for season 4, and is set to start filming this spring for a 2015 debut.

In addition, the channel announced that Veep season 3 will premiere immediately following Game of Thrones.

Finally, HBO confirmed that Boardwalk Empire season 5 will be the show’s final season. “It has been an incredible honor to bring this powerful and groundbreaking series to our subscribers,” said Michael Lombardo, president of HBO Programming. “Terry Winter has created one for the ages.”

Added Winter, “We’re thrilled to get the go-ahead for a fifth season of Boardwalk Empire. After much discussion with my creative team and HBO, we’ve decided to wrap up the series after such a great run and look forward to bringing it to a powerful and exciting conclusion.”

The announcements were made during HBO’s panel at the Television Critics Association Winter Press Day.

HBO also shared news about Damon Lindelof’s upcoming HBO drama The Leftovers: “When 2% of the world’s population abruptly disappears without explanation, the world struggles to understand just what they’re supposed to do about it. Three years later, the new HBO drama series The Leftovers is the story of the people who didn’t make the cut.”

Production on The Leftovers begins early this year and will debut in the summer. Lindelof is the showrunner.
