America got their first chance to use their fan save as The Voice season 5’s top 12 were whittled down to 10.
With the teams finally finalized, this week we started the tough part, as America’s votes send home the bottom two contestants, regardless of whose team they’re on. It was a fast-moving elimination show, with results revealed throughout the episode, as well as a lot of performances.
The Eliminations
After nine of the saved contestants were revealed, the bottom three remaining were Team Christina’s Josh Logan, and Team Cee Lo contestants Kat Robichaud and Jonny Gray. This is where the fans’ Twitter save came into play for the first time, and the fans were given five minutes to tweet for their favorite bottom three contestant using the hashtag #VoiceSave. After the break, it was revealed that the contestant with the most Twitter votes was Kat Robichaud, and it was the end of the road for Josh Logan and Jonny Gray.
Sarah Bareilles shows how big her ‘Brave’ is
Adam Levine’s buddy Sarah Bareilles kicked off the results show with a performance of her hit song “Brave”. She was joined by the ladies of the top 12: Kat, Caroline, Jacquie, and Tessanne, who sang backup, and each got a moment to shine with a small solo. “Brave” is a great song, and Sarah is a great singer, but seeing her on prime-time TV again just makes us miss The Sing-Off.
‘The Voice’ Confessional
We got our first of what will undoubtedly be many The Voice Confessional videos from season 5, and we learned some more fun facts about the contestants and our coaches. From unicycling, to bed-wetting, to pens hidden in beards, we have quite the interesting assortment of characters this season. We learned about all the coaches’ animals, from Christina’s dogs, to Cee Lo’s menagerie of sassy pets, to ADAM LEVINE HOLDING A PUPPY.
‘Roam’ if you want to
Team Cee Lo took the stage with their coach to perform the B-52s’ “Roam”. It was the perfect fun song for this fun-loving team. There were even some backup dancers, dancing jauntily on the catwalks in the middle of the audience as the contestants performed. Also, while Cee Lo’s outfit at first looked to be his most subdued performance outfit yet, it turned out to be a dress.
‘We’re An American Band’
The men of The Voice season 5 came together to perform Grand Funk Railroad’s “We’re An American Band”. They really were just that, an American band, with four of the eight men joining The Voice house band to play for their performance. It wasn’t until this week’s boy and girl performances that it became quite clear just how much the boys outnumber the girls in season 5’s final rounds.
The Fab Four
Team Adam took on The Beatles’ classic “A Hard Day’s Night”. With Adam on drums, Will on keys, James on guitar, and Tessanne on the mic, they formed season 5’s very own Fab Four. They really are four pretty incredible vocalists, who could make singing the phone book sound exciting.
The Voice returns next Monday at 8 p.m. on NBC, when the top 10 will take the stage to perform for America’s votes.
