Orange is the New Black season 2 will welcome back Laura Prepon for four episodes, according to a new report.
The interesting twist of fate – reported by BuzzFeed – will come as a relief to those who remember September’s report in which where we learned the actress was only due back for a single episode. While four episodes is just a third of a full season, it’s better than what was previously reported.
In even better news, BuzzFeed says that Prepon is in talks for season 3.
The reason for Prepon’s short run on Orange is the New Black season 2 appears to be multifaceted. The actress had only signed on for one season when she initially joined the show, and by the time its popularity exploded she was already set on directing her first movie and planned an OINTB exit. Now viewers have fallen in love with the prison drama and Prepon’s character Alex, meaning most find it unacceptable that she planned to depart.
In our opinion, one lingering issue is the fact that she’s being written into the show so late into season 2’s production. The other cast and crew have been filming Orange is the New Black since June, so her role in the new episodes may be something of an after thought just to appease fans. Prepon reportedly starts filming this week.
Last month, series creator Jenji Kohan said that season 2 will spread its focus across all of the characters instead of keeping the spotlight on Piper. “It’s becoming much more of an ensemble,” she said. “As much as I love Piper and Taylor and her journey, I think people are interested in everybody’s journey.”
Orange is the New Black season 2’s release date is not yet set, but expect to see it on Netflix in early 2014.
