The CW has released a batch of promotional stills from Supernatural season 9, episode 7 “Bad Boys,” featuring flashbacks to a young Dean.

In these stills, we see a few shots of the present day with Dean and Sam on a case while the majority are from when Dean was much younger.

From the pictures, we can see that Dean looks to be in his early-to-mid-teens, though the new actor playing young Dean (Dylan Everett) does not bear much resemblance to Brock Kelly, the actor who previously portrayed teenage Dean.

The official synopsis for the episode reads:

YOUNG DEAN — Dean (Jensen Ackles) gets a call from an old friend named Sonny (guest star Blake Gibbons) asking for help with a ghost. Sonny runs a home for delinquent boys, and Dean was sent there for stealing food when he was younger. Sam (Jared Padalecki) is stunned he never knew this about his brother and asks for more information, but Dean dodges his questions. Another murder occurs while Sam and Dean are at the house, so they scramble to find the culprit before anyone else dies. Meanwhile, Dean looks up an old girlfriend (guest star Erin Karpluk) and recalls his time at the house. Kevin Parks directed the episode written by Adam Glass.

There was previously some question about how Sam would be unaware of this time in Dean’s life, but judging from the above photos, it looks like he was out with John, doubling our curiosity as to the context of the situation that forced Dean to steal food.

Also based on the above stills, it looks like Dean cultivated a positive relationship with Sonny, the man running the home. It will be interesting to see what his and Dean’s dynamic looks like both in the past and present.

Supernatural season 9, episode 7 “Bad Boys” airs Tuesday, November 19 at 9:00 p.m. ET on The CW.

Are you looking forward to a young Dean-centric episode of ‘Supernatural’?

That ghost if freaky as hell.. Well, some of them are, so no shock there.

  • Kadma Sixx

I was about to say just that… Dylan doesn’t really look like a younger Dean ):

  • Elphaba Thropp

Why couldn’t they get Brock Kelly? He can’t be that young now…

    • Elphaba Thropp

Oops. Messed up. Thought you were talking about Ridge Canipe, who played LITTLE young Dean.

      • Elphaba Thropp

Aaaaand he’s apparently nineteen now. And doesn’t really look the part anymore, I guess. So. Ignore me.

  • Taylor

I don’t like the new little Dean! I miss Brock.

  • hlots11

That kid looks more like a mini David Boreanaz than a mini Jensen.

  • stevenapplebaum

I’m sick of Dean-centric episodes. Last week’s episode was one as well. The writers focus solely on him and have been for the entirety of the show’s run.

Sam has no personality; instead, he has problems.

    • Christine

Last week’s episode had Dean acting like a dog, but it didn’t really have any emotional resonance on him as a person. There’s a difference between an episode focusing on one character more than another, and actually giving that character an arc/development (though it looks like this episode will lean more towards the latter).
And Sam has a personality, it’s just not been showcased very well as of late.

      • stevenapplebaum

The show uses Sam as a prop. Everything that happens to Sam is just a
vehicle for Dean’s emotions and how he responds to his brother.

Dean is given all of the personality. Every time there’s a new quirk to
introduce, they give it to Dean. He has an extreme appetite, a love of
classic rock & roll, “Yellow Fever,” and now secretly loves classic
        sci-fi and fantasy.

What can be said about Sam? The only thing the fan community can muster is that his penis causes women to die.

I also want to point out that every time there’s an opportunity for funny things to happen, the writers always give it to Dean. Think back to him getting the fear virus in season three.

        • Scott

          I have to agree.
          Dean-central episodes consist of:
          -In my Time of Dying
-What is and What Should Never Be
          -Lazarus Rising
          -In the Beginning
          -Yellow Fever
-The Curious Case of Dean Winchester
          -You can’t handle the truth
-Clap your hands if you believe
          -Defending Your Life
          -Time After Time
          -The Slice Girls
          -Dog Dean Afternoon
Bottom line, something weird happens to Dean every 3-4 episodes.
          Sam-central episodes consist of:
          -Mystery Spot
          -That’s the only one.
Sure, Sam gets all the plotlines and story-arcs, but Dean’s the one who gets the most attention.

    • Fellatio

WHAT!!!!! WHAT!!! WHAT SHOW ARE YOU WATCHING???

Every single season is about Sam, SAM SAM SAM SAM I am so fking sick of Sam, from season 1 to this new crappy season 9 SAM SAM SAM, Dean is lucky if he gets noticed! he has a s**t ep last week and now he seems to be getting a s**t one now that doesn’t make any sense (Sam didn’t know..really? who took care of Sam um DEAN! )
The writers kiss Sams arse over and over it is about Sam, and Jared can’t even act its painful!

      • stevenapplebaum

        • Your Worst Nightmare

It’s true. I know all of these qualifiers about dear old Dean, but absolutely nothing of Sam, wafty follicled Sam… and I’m on Season 9.

Wait! Sam is a vegetarian, no? There—there’s something! But I wouldn’t ‘define’ him by that. I’m not racist. Overall, Sam is a wonderful plot device. They should call it, “Oh no, what will happen to Sam next: The Dean Winchester Story (aka the apocalypse episodes were dumb and I wished to add this).

          • stevenapplebaum

I would argue that the fact that Sam eats healthily (not necessarily “vegetarian”) was just used to contrast him with Dean’s “meat and potatoes” diet/personality.

It’s a unique trait, but still a means of comparing him to Dean.

I remember back when Sam was the researcher and Dean was the “people-person.” Now Dean does just as much research as Sam, if not more.

    • Scott

Hey, it’s you, from the Super Mario Bros. 2 Comic! Neat.

Cool to know you watch Supernatural.

      • stevenapplebaum

I saw your avatar on my Disqus notifications was floored that it could be you. Real surprise.

Supernatural is one of my favorite shows. The first five seasons were just perfect, and while I feel it hasn’t been as good since I still enjoy the characters and situations.

  • Kasmodia Wilberthe

What an idiotic show, third rate, D-List show. How the hell has something so crappy that no one watches lasted this long? I can’t wait until the People’s Choice Awards. I’ll bet you dollars to doughnuts that Supernatural will take every category its nominated in and will actually BEAT the Walking Dead. Yes, the WALKING DEAD, which garners a KAZILLION viewers each week and which has COLOSSALLY expensive advertising rates. So how will Supernatural do that, you ask? Well, my humble friend, I shall tell you: It’s the same two or three thousand WEIRDO Supernatural fans voting OVER and OVER and OVER and OVER. Yes, those TWO or THREE THOUSAND FANS, all of whom are AT LEAST FORTY-FIVE YEARS OLD and MISERABLE because they can’t decide if Dean is better off screwing his BROTHER (“Wincest”) or the ANGEL (“Diestiel”) . . . Yes, all of those TWO or THREE THOUSAND people will get CALLUSES voting FIFTY THOUSAND times each, thinking that the award will actually mean something. It won’t. It will do NOTHING but prove how WORTHLESS in terms of money the People’s Choice Awards actually are. Plus–and this is freakin’ PRICELESS . . . . As fueled by gay people as this show is, Jensen Ackles keeps getting put on BLAST because he’s a Right Wing Republican who is an EVANGELICAL CHRISTIAN who keeps sayin’ less than favorable stuff about gay people at those Supernatural fairs. He won’t even answer questions if they are “gay” related. IDIOTS FOR WATCHING THIS STUPID SHOW, THAT’S WHAT YOU ARE.

    • Donnie

So because fewer people watch it, that means it’s worse? Tons of people listen to Justin Beiber, does that make him a great artist? No. Walking Dead is good, but it’s extremely hit and miss. I’m not saying that Supernatural isn’t, but Walking Dead shouldn’t greatness should not be determined by the amount of viewers or advertising revenue.

      • Four Walls

Er. . . I happen to actually like SPN but I do get what Wilbert was saying, even if he was an ass about it. The truth is that we all know Jensen Ackles is more than a lil’ homophobic and I don’t like it at all. SPN is my gulity pleasure, but I hate it when people talk about it like it’s Homeland or Mad Men or Shakespeare or something. it’s an ok show that’s been on for a while. Leave it at that.

        • Fellatio

          He isn’t homophobic,

        • Donnie

Okay. Phobia means fear or extreme dislike. Can we actually use it properly? If you make some jokes, that doesn’t make you fearful or hateful? Do you know if he has gay friends? Do you know of every single relationship in his life?

As for the show, it’s nice to have a show that isn’t just about people having affairs in a different decade, a cop drama, or some show with a crappy love story that has been done to death.

          • theuazula

I love how people always resort to dictionary definitions to prove a point. Homophobia is defined by how LGBTA+ people are discriminated against and generally shit upon in almost every aspect of life based on a privileged population being socially confirmed in all anti-homosexual agendas (this includes jokes about being queer, violence against queer persons, job discrimination, social ostracism, etc.) Definitions change over time, so when you use the dictionary to back up your arguments, make sure it’s culturally relevant. Otherwise you just look like an ass.

    • Brit

Actually you are wrong. Around 3 million people watch every week. I happen to be 24, not weird, and like this show. Let Jensen have his own opinion about gays. You obviously have your opinions but some things are better kept to yourself. What makes you care so much about bashing this show and its viewers that you practically write an essay about it? Quit hating on people and get a life…

    • Fellatio

Jensen Ackles is a Democrat! moron he is non-denominational Christian and he supports Gay rights! TWAT! do your research!

I have to admit though this show has gone to the dogs, Carver has ruined this show!

      • ados

carver has ruined the show? more like he salvaged what sera gamble did to it.

        • Fellatio

Sera Gamble did well and she didn’t have much to work with, her writing was/is far superior to Carvers, even if she did still make it all about Sam.

          • Donnie

Her story arcs were way too drawn out. Season 6 and 7 could have been made 1 to 1 1/2.

    • Loulou

LOL. Aw you mad, poor kitty? What happened to you for being so fucking bitter that you just felt like wasting energy and time in a rant like this?
If it’s such a waste, why are you even here TRYING to convince us and yourself that the show is shit and we are morons….?
      Redundant and lame.
And yeah I am being a moron for even caring and taking your trolling bait HA!

    • Chris Marks

I’m a 23 year old non-religious left wing democrat, and I watch this show every week, along with everyone I hang out with, a bunch of other early to mid 20′s left wing non religious democrat men and women.

you seem unhappy, maybe you need friends, that’s sad, what a waste of oxygen

    • Chris Marks

If you’re a guy, you must have a tiny penis, if you’re a girl, you’re man must have a tiny penis, that’s sad

    • Alex

I’m sixteen and I watch Supernatural. I don’t believe that I am too weird and I’m not miserable due to being indecisive. Get your facts straight and do some research, okay?

    • Burton

      Fucking asshole.

  • Jace

Yes, this is the one I’ve been looking forward too. A Supernatural episode that is about the two main leads lives and not everyones elses. I love this and am hopeful that its going to be a one to rewatch time and time again like the classics of the early seasons.

  • Scott

The amount of times a different kid has been cast for a young Dean, and how none of them look alike is really not boding well for consistency. Then again, this is Supernatural, and since Season 6 consistency has practically been a joke.
