Bruno Mars has just released the official music video for his latest single, “Gorilla” and, if you’ve listened to the track before, the fact that the video in and of itself is arguably provocative won’t come as one bit of a shock!
Clocking in at just over six minutes, Mars’ “Gorilla” takes place in a seedy night club and showcases a newbie stripper (Played by Slumdog Millionaire’s Freida Pinto) taking the stage for the first time.
The video opens on two exotic dancers talking smack about how the new girl better not be moving in on their turf or taking any of their clientele away.
“You of all people should know no one can tie that boy down.” says one dancer forebodingly before Pinto is called to the stage.
Latin actor Luis Guzman plays the grimy strip club manager who intrudes Pinto as “the new girl in town.”
The rest of the video is a pieced together montage of Pinto stripping down, giving lap dances to club clientele, and of course, working the stripper pole while Bruno Mars performs “Gorilla” in the background, playing the role of the nightclub band frontman.
The climax of the video occurs when the singer and actress share a steamy kiss before Pinto takes Mars’ guitar and proceeds to pour tequila over the instrument and set it on fire.
“Gorilla” is the fifth single off of Bruno Mars’ second studio album, Unorthodox Jukebox. On the heels of his 2013 Summer tour, this winter, Mars will be hitting the road and taking his Moonshine Jungle Tour across the world, stopping in various cities through Europe, Australia, and New Zealand with newcomers Fitz & The Tantrums as his opening act.
This looks to be a busy year for Bruno as he will also helm the Super Bowl Halftime Show this February.
