In a recent interview with Hugh Jackman about his latest film The Wolverine, he spoke very excitedly about the possibility of teaming up with Marvel’s The Avengers and Sony’s Spider-Man if the studios could figure out the details.
Jackman spoke with Collider at a press circuit and revealed that he can’t understand why the studios can’t get X-Men, Spider-Man, and The Avengers together in one film. The legality of all the characters in one film is mind boggling, but Hugh seemed very positive.
When asked what it would take to happen, Jackman said: “Mate, I asked the same question the other day to Tom from Marvel who works with all the other studios, he works with Sony and Fox, that’s his job to liaise. I said, ‘Man, can this happen?’ and he goes ‘Look, it’s not gonna be easy because you’re working with different studios and they’re their properties.'”
He went on to say that maybe he’s just an optimist, “I believe, maybe I’m optimistic, I understand at Marvel they’ve got The Avengers, they’ve got a lot of big things going on, but at some point I just find it almost impossible that there’s not a way to bring Iron Man, all the Avengers characters, Wolverine, the X-Men characters, Spider-Man, and somehow get them in together.”
It would certainly be one hell of a movie if someone was able to get all of those characters into one film, but it was difficult enough for Avengers 2 director Joss Whedon to get all of the Avengers in Marvel’s massive box office hit. Watch the interview below thanks to Collider:
In the last few days, we’ve had two other clips from The Wolverine, so be sure to check out the first and second clip from the film which features exciting new footage from the film which hits theaters later this month.
Some fans were a bit skeptical when the first The Wolverine trailer landed, due to the fact that Logan appears to gradually lose his powers throughout the film, but the footage we’re seeing recently definitely gives us some hope for this film.
Hugh Jackman has certainly kept his end of the deal, as he continues to impress us physically, and director James Mangold (Identity, Walk the Line, 3:10 to Yuma) continues to surprise with his striking use of Japanese culture in contrast with Wolverine’s typical X-Men locations.
The Wolverine, starring Hugh Jackman, Will Yun Lee, Hiroyuki Sanada, Brian Tee, Rila Fukushima, Tao Okamoto and Svetlana Khodchenkova has a release date set for July 26.
