The first trailer for How to Train Your Dragon 2 has hit the internet, and in it we see our beloved Hiccup and Toothless return to the skies.

Though this trailer offers no glimpse into the plot, this first look at How to Train Your Dragon 2 follows Hiccup and Toothless as they’re in the air testing some new flight equipment. The duo has a fun surprise for viewers, and it’s almost cool enough to excuse them for being away from our screens for so long.

How to Train Your Dragon 2 is set five years after the original Dreamworks film which is part of the reason why there’s an unveiling of Hiccup’s older appearance at the end of this trailer.

According to the official synopsis, Hiccup and Toothless are now an inseparable pair, and a newfound mission to chart unfound territory leads them to finding “a ice cave that is home to hundreds of new wild dragons and the mysterious Dragon Rider.” This discovery leads them to a conflict where they’re trying to keep peace amongst the new dragons.

There’s an uplifting, epic feeling to this trailer that we think is teasing the high bar that the sequel plans to jump over.

With Hiccup now aged five years, the young man will surely be experiencing a romantic fling or two during the movie.

How to Train Your Dragon 2 opens in theaters June 20, 2014. The film includes the voice cast of Jay Baruchel (Hiccup), Jonah Hill (Snotlout), Gerard Butler (Stoick the Vast), Kristen Wiig (Ruffnut), America Ferrera (Astrid), Kit Harington (Dragon Prince), and Christopher Mintz-Plasse (Fishlegs)

Ever since I found out they were making this a trilogy, I’ve been so excited for a glimpse at the direction they are going to go in. To date, this is one of my favorite animated movies and film scores – this trailer certainly didn’t disappoint!

    • Elphaba Thropp

It’s a trilogy?? I thought there was only going to be a sequel! Awesome!

  • The507thDoctor

First one took me by surprise at how awesome it was, so can’t wait to see this. The flying sequences really are amazing and it might actually be worth seeing in 3-D, as I’ve always thought Dreamworks Animation make quite good use of the technology.

    • stargazer

If it’s anything as good as the first one, it’s worth seeing in 3D. I saw the first one for the first time in 3D, and I was floating afterwards. That’s the only movie I’ve seen in 3D before and since that actually warranted seeing it in 3D, in my opinion.

      • Tygridia

It was one of the first films I watch on 3D and it was the first time I felt the extra money was worth it

  • Winkyxx

    Looks awesome!

  • stargazer

I loved the first one so much! This trailer was amazing, so I can’t wait!

  • Barbara

I do NOT want to have to wait another year for this movie! It pains me that we won’t get another trailer (that shows plot and other characters) for probably several months.
Also, Hiccup: damn, son. Congratulations on your everything. You punched puberty in the face.
