Speaking at BookExpo America over the weekend, The Hunger Games trilogy author Suzanne Collins revealed she plans to return to the world of writing books for teens.

Collins didn’t say more about her plans other than revealing her new book for teens will be a series.

Fans who fell in love with her for writing The Hunger Games were a tad disappointed when we learned in November that her next book Year of the Jungle is for children.

Collins told her audience at BEA that she’s currently helping with the scripts for Mockingjay – Part 1 and Mockingjay – Part 2, which will hit theaters in November 2014 and 2015 respectively.

Before The Hunger Games, Collins had written another series for teens that was lesser known titled The Underland Chronicles. Five books were published in the series between 2003 and 2007 before she moved on to her books following Katniss.

With Year of the Jungle being published this year (September 10), we can hope that the first book in her next teenage series could see the light of day by the end of 2014 or early 2015.

Can Collins strike gold twice? We’d love to see another huge series out of the author and are glad she’s returning to the genre that fans know her for most.

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire opens in theaters November 22.

Ohhhh, how exciting! I look forward to seeing what she comes up with. Am I the only one who had no clue that she had written The Underland Chronicles? I need to check that out asap!

You should! They’re awesome. I read them to my kids at work, and it was one of their favorite series we’ve read. They’re the reason I read Hunger Games, because Suzanne is such an awesome author!

I am not sure if I would classify The Underland Chronicles as teen books (I would say ages 8-12) however they are very good.

After the way she wrote Mockingjay, I will not bother investing myself in her books ever again.

I think instead of new series she needs more hunger games book because although theres not much more fighting needed but farther new on the romance part will be great and also there was some talk about the battles Heavensbee (head game maker) talked about small battles after she killed coin.

(Spoiler alert) I totally agree, I didn’t like how it ended so abruptly with ‘this, this, and this happened. The end!’ I was hoping for her to get into Katniss and Peeta finding each other again…. So I think she should definitely continue it.

    Best news!!!

Oh, The Underland Chronicles are considered Middle Grade, not teen.

Books by New York publishers take at least 1 1/2 years – 2 years to get published from the time the deal is announced. Unless she literally sells the book NOW there’s no way that book is coming out in 2014.

If an author is successful enough, they’ll crank it out as fast as possible.

Hopefully her narrative Finesse will have improved since The Hunger Games. While I loved the story as much as the next guy, the writing was mediocre. Not even bad or terrible… just very mediocre.

YAY!! I’m so glad to hear Suzanne’s making more books! I hope that THE ODDS MAY BE EVER IN HER FAVOR… **HungerGamesGal**

  • Chloe

I’m sooooo sad that she’s not continuing the Hunger Games. I am super obsessed. I wish Suzanne would continue the series. :(

Er, the Underland Chronicles are for preteens.
