Could Rick entertain a new relationship in The Walking Dead season 4? The question was posed to lead star Andrew Lincoln in a recent interview.
The Walking Dead season 4 began shooting earlier this month in Atlanta, Georgia, and the plot is expected to pick up several months after the season 3 finale where The Governor ran away from the scene and former Woodbury followers.
Speaking to Lincoln from the set, TV Line wondered if Rick will find new love in light of Lori’s death during season 3.
“I think that there has to be some kind of mourning time. I don’t think he’s able to engage at all on that level at the moment. I wouldn’t rule it out though.”
He added with a laugh, “I think Sarah Wayne Callies would be phoning me deeply upset if anything like that would be happening in season 4.”
Lincoln’s wording seems to indicate that a new romance may not appear in the first few episodes of season 4, but the possibility is wide open for later in the season.
If The Walking Dead season 4 time jumps from the season 3 finale, Rick could easily have somewhat of a mourning period. Time moves slowly when you’re living in an apocalyptic world, so a few months of mourning could feel like several years.
A romance for Rick could also affect his son Carl, who we saw suffering from a lack of a childhood by the end of season 3. Perhaps seeing Rick happy with a new woman could inspire and improve Carl’s mood. Or, it could make Carl turn against Rick further.
The Walking Dead season 4 will air beginning sometime this October on AMC. We expect more details about the season to be unveiled during Comic-Con San Diego this July.
Thanks, TV Line.
