Summit has released the first Ender’s Game trailer for the film adaptation of Orson Scott Card’s popular Sci-Fi novel of the same name.

Watch the Ender’s Game trailer below:

Ender’s Game will star Asa Butterfield as Ender Wiggin, a child genius who is recruited to attend Battle School – a training camp in space where gifted children are sent to learn the skills they need to be soldiers in what may be the most dangerous war Earth has ever fought. At Battle School, Ender is faced with the trials and tribulations that will ultimately lead him to be the humanity’s best hope for survival against an imminent invasion from Earth’s mortal enemy – the Buggers.

Ender’s Game will also feature Ben Kingsley (Mazer Rackham), Harrison Ford (Colonel Hyrum Graff), Abigail Breslin (Valentine Wiggin), Hailee Steinfeld (Petra Arkanian) and Aramis Knight (Bean).

This novel is a favourite amongst fans of the Sci-Fi genre and a film adaptation of the story has been anticipated for some time. Fans are particularly interested in how the timeline for this story, which takes place over several years, will be condensed into an on-screen appropriate timeline.

Ender’s Game is set for release on November 1, 2013. You can catch the Ender’s Game trailer in theaters with Star Trek Into Darkness later this month.

What did you think of the ‘Ender’s Game’ trailer?

Aw, Asa has grown up a lot!

  • http://twitter.com/_melarkz Emma

omg! i added the book to my to read list after seeing the tease to the trailer but now i need to get to it even faster! 3 books to read and then ender’s game! cannot wait!

  • Allie

Wow. Way to totally spoil the ending. Unbelievable!

    • Lukas

Is it a spoiler when you have read the book? And is it a spoiler when you totally do not know what is going on?

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=17127641 Laura Jurgensmeyer

I don’t think it spoils the ending at all? If someone hasn’t read the book, I don’t think they’ll have any idea.

    • Tigger

No, YOU spoiled the ending by saying that. Sure if you have read the book you know what happens, but some people haven’t so that sequence could have been anything. And besides, that shot was taken out of context. The ending is more complicated than that.

      • TheDoctorInTheTardisAlwaysKnew

If they haven’t read the book they probably don’t even know what shot we’re talking about

        • Tigger

lol Exactly. Lets keep it that way. Anyway, looks fantastic so far!

    • http://twitter.com/Woffles92 Sarah Barnett

I have not read the book and I have no idea what any of you are talking about so no, I don’t think it’s been spoiled!

    • Sarah

To clear up this fight, I haven’t read the book, and I have no idea what “spoiler” you’re talking about, so everybody play nice.

  • Andrew_ww

If Harrison Ford is in it I will watch it. Also you spelt Abigail Breslin wrong.

    • Hzl

And the Buggers are a *mortal* enemy… not so much a moral one. The reviewed articles lately are worse than the old ones that didn’t specify a reviewer! :/

This looks so great! I got chills. So excited!

  • froggym

Love Asa Butterfield so much. Even though he was only in a couple episodes of merlin he made an impact on the entire show. Such a talented young man.

  • Mitchel Clow

As someone who’s not familiar with the story at all, I found myself really intrigued with this trailer!

  • http://twitter.com/theaterandi Adele Ivy

    Such a spectacular cast!

  • RussellTurner

I was like, why does he look so familiar, then i was like, “Is that Mordrid?”

Honestly, I’m not sure how I feel about this trailer. Clearly, the movie is going to have a different feel than the book just because it’s image-based vs. thought-based, but it just didn’t feel reminiscent of the Ender’s Game I know. I wish they had touched a little more on Ender’s relationships with the other kids at Battle School–or that we had even seen Bean!

I’m starting to doubt if this really can work as a movie–so much of the book is about the characters, and their nuanced relationships. Then again, the trailer is not really meant to advertise toward those of us who have read the book, and they’re trying to pull people in with the action which I get. I just hope the movie is a little more character-driven.

On the plus side–Asa’s face when hugging Valentine was perfect.

I haven’t read the book, but I think this trailer was pretty awful.
It would have been more successful if they focused on the people and the relationships more.

    • Lukas

Bean was in the trailer, but only for about two seconds. I think it is good that this trailer was rather vague and that people who haven’t read the book don’t even who is who. Except for the nametags then. A lot of trailers really tell you to much about the plot, and with this trailer I feel like people who have read the book will only understand about what it is.

    • Kaitlyn

I agree. This book is incredibly character driven as so much of the important content of the book takes place inside of Ender’s own mind with the way he understand and sympathizes with the enemy to better defeat them. I don’t know how exactly they are going to express that in the movie. I am still going to see it, but I am forcing myself to attach no expectations of it living up to the book to the movie itself. I am treating it as a completely separate entity. I hope to love them both!

It’s really good but they’re leaving a lot out. Now, I don’t want them to give away the whole plot but this trailer gives non readers the impression that this is a typical sci-fi/action flick when it’s not. I’d be happy with one more trailer that focuses more on the deeper and more psychosocial aspects of the book (which I think they’ve kept in form the interviews I’ve seen. Maybe show the Mind Game?)

    • http://www.hypable.com/ Alex Hopper

Good point! The novel has some heavy-duty psychological aspects to it by contrast to some other books in the sci-fi genre. It’s almost a psychological thriller/mystery set in space (making it a sci-fi movie as well).

The mind game is such a crucial part to Ender’s development in the book – I wonder if they’ll end up showing that in some sort of “dream sequence” type format…

  • spacie19

omg omg omg! This could be awesome. I’m obsessed with this series.

  • TheDoctorInTheTardisAlwaysKnew

I just watched Asa in a Merlin episode last night

  • Emma

I have never read the books, but I have to say just by watching this trailer I SO WANT TO SEE THE MOVIE! Totally going to read the book first….
