Nathan Fillion will be playing Greek god Hermes in the second Percy Jackson movie, Sea of Monsters. Check out what he had to say about the experience!

Nathan Fillion is, of course, well known for playing Mal in the cult TV show Firefly, which was cancelled after only one season, and the follow-up movie, Serenity. At the moment, he plays the title character on Castle. During the show’s hiatus, however, he took time to join the cast in the sequel to Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief.

Fillion will be playing Hermes, god of messengers, travel, and thieves, among other things. In the books, Hermes is Luke’s father and an ally to Percy and his friends. He helps Percy by giving him a quest and offering several magical items, including a thermos that holds winds from the four corners of the Earth, as seen in the recently released trailer.

Hermes made a cameo in the first movie, played by Dylan Neal, although his role is much more important this time around. In an interview with TV Guide, Fillion talks about his character, saying, “I’m not allowed contact with humans as a god, so I dress as a UPS guy.” In one of the scenes, he takes Percy and his friends to a parcel-sorting facility.

Fillion is an established and well-loved actor. So, what did he have to say about Logan Lerman, Alexandra Daddario, and Brandon T. Jackson? “The three young actors restored my faith in humanity of what Los Angeles actors can be like,” he says. “They were having fun — supercool, prepared and professional. A very comfortable, great place to be!”

There isn’t much higher praise than that!

Don’t forget that Sea of Monsters comes out on August 16. It stars Lerman as Percy, Daddario as Annabeth, Jackson as Grover, and Jake Abel as Luke. Fillion (Hermes), Stanley Tucci (Dionysus), Leven Rambin (Clarisse), and Douglas Smith (Tyson) also star.

Not too happy Nathan Fillion is mixed up in this. I am really confused that they are making a second one because I wasn’t under the impression anyone liked the first one? I couldn’t even make it through the whole movie. All I know is that it was really different from the book apparently?

It is incredibly different than the book, but is still extremely entertaining. In my opinion at least.

Not many liked it, true, but it made money, so they saw potential, I suppose, to make money. And while the first movie IS a bad adaption – though still entertaining in it’s own right – this one looks more on-course. The first movies issues were that, plot-wise, it wasn’t great, and not just because of the differences to the book, but also the direction wasn’t great. I usually enjoy the directors work to some extent but there’s just something that didn’t work well for that first movie, it felt messy. From the trailer alone this looks like a vast improvement.

The first was a good movie, but terrible adaptation.

I have nothing against the movie- I have something against the adaptation.. I own the movie, enjoy the movie etc. but the adaptation was poorly done, so I’m hoping for a better go around this time.

I loved the first movie. I’ve never read the books and don’t really care to…

    • StarFire

I wanted the trailer and so far it looks FAR more accurate! At least I hope it is..

I didn’t know he was in this….now I’ll 100% be going to see this.

I swear the chemistry between Logan, Alex and Brandon were one of the most underrated things in the first film (which I totally loved.) Bring it on, Fillion!

Yep, Nathan and Logan are two my favourite actor and I can’t wait they on screen together.

more trademark oercy jackson humor, nathan fillion as hermes and according to Logan Lerman they’ve included Polyphemus the Cyclops – im in.

bTW I don’t think Fillion was referring to Brandon T. Jackson, his scenes in the film are with Lerman, Daddario and Douglas Smith playing Percy’s cyclops half-brother Tyson
