With less than three weeks to go before the return of Smash, actors Katharine McPhee, Jeremy Jordan and Krysta Rodriguez are revealing new details about what’s to come in season 2 – including information about Hit List and the possibility of Glee‘s Lea Michele stopping by. Spoilers ahead!
We already know season 2 of NBC’s musical drama will include a new musical called Hit List, written by Jordan’s character Jimmy and his friend Kyle (Andy Mientus). In an interview with Broadway.com, McPhee (Karen Cartwright) described the new show as having “a Spring Awakening, Rent kind of vibe,” while Rodriguez, who plays Karen’s roommate Ana, explained the plot as “essentially about fame and what people will do to achieve it in the era of Lady Gaga. It’s very hip; it’s very young.”
But Hit List isn’t the only new musical coming to Smash this season. As Broadway.com reveals, Karen will be headed to Hit List while Ivy gets a role in Liasons.
“It looks amazing,” McPhee said about Liasons. “The big numbers are so vibrant. Megan gets to do a lot of cool styles this year. I was incredibly jealous.”
Interestingly, E! Online dished on a big loss for Bombshell and a few new details about the return of everyone’s most beloved character (NOT!), Ellis.
By the end of the episode three, Bombshell will have lost someone very important to the production. Don’t worry, nobody dies. And guess who’s back to cause more trouble? Hint: doorway lurker. And you’ll never believe who he’s forming an alliance with…
Could that be referring to Karen or does the loss have to do with the government’s investigation into the money Eileen was using to fund the show?
With multiple musicals involved this season, including Ronnie Moore’s (Jennifer Hudson) Beautiful, Rodriguez reveals that there will be some Tonys talk included in the show.
“There are Tony war rooms where producers of the different shows are deciding, how do we get there, who’s going to be nominated? There is definitely Tony conversation,” she said.
With so many Broadway vets making their way onto Smash, including Bernadette Peters, Liza Minnelli, Jesse L. Martin and Daphne Rubin-Vega, McPhee disclosed her dream Broadway guest stars for a stint on Hit List – The Phantom of the Opera‘s Patrick Wilson and a Glee star.
“Maybe Lea Michele will drop in. Wouldn’t that be hilarious?” McPhee said.
