Lady Gaga had a special gift for fans this Christmas – the announcement of a new documentary film based on her life and helmed by fashion photographer Terry Richardson.

Fans have been awaiting Mother Monster’s third full-length album, ARTPOP, since she performed new song “Princess Die” while on tour and announced the album’s title in August. They now have more to get excited about.

No more details about the documentary have been released, but Gaga did confirm to a fan on Twitter that the new documentary would not be another HBO special like her 2011 Monster Ball concert special from Madison Square Garden.

Other singers have been opening up on screen in recent years. Justin Bieber’s Never Say Never hit theaters in 2011, Katy Perry released Part of Me in the summer of 2012, and Beyonce will premiere her own documentary special on HBO in February. One Direction will join the concert/documentary film trend when their movie premieres Aug. 30, 2013.

The 26-year-old “Born This Way” singer tweeted her gratitude for her fans’ support soon after announcing her new documentary.

Gaga is set to have a busy year in 2013 with ARTPOP expected sometime next year as more than just an album, but as a multimedia app as well. She will also star in Robert Rodriguez’s sequel to MacheteMachete Kills – due in the summer of 2013.

Are you looking forward to a Lady Gaga documentary? What would you like to see in the movie?

Something I don’t think she’d ever show is the writing process. Like how she just sits there and in 15 mins writes an entire song. That would be awesome to see.

That would be an amazing experience to see, because I think that an artist’s most intimate moment is when she writes. Plus her concepts are so otherworldly and romantic, it’s hard not to want to see how she does it.

First Justin Bieber, then Katy Perry and now Lady Gaga. . . I see a trend here

Lady GaGa actually already did a film like this, before Katy Perry. It was only on HBO though, not in theatres.

This is actually Lady GaGa’s fourth album, NOT her third. She debuted with the Fame, and then separately released The Fame Monster, then Born This Way, and now ARTPOP. Though The Fame Monster was available attached to The Fame, similar to a re-release, it was predominately sold separately, and is considered a separate album. Therefore adding up to a total of three albums released, and making ARTPOP her fourth album.

Key word in that sentence is “full-length.” The Fame Monster is considered an EP. But yes, ARTPOP will be her fourth album or third full-length.

just a reminder that she didn’t call it a concert movie, both never say never and part of me were essentially concert movies. this is lady gaga we are talking about, it will be completely different to what has been done.
