The 1995 childhood favorite, Jumanji, is in the works to be remade!

THR tells us that Jumanji will be remade, with Ted Field (Bad Teacher) and Mike Weber (Twelve) producing the reboot, and Zach Helm (Stranger than Fiction) will write the new project.

The reboot will be adapted from the 1981 Chris Van Allsburg book about two children who a board game that comes to life, and they eventually must fight against the game to survive and end the game, after one of the characters, because of the game, gets trapped in the jungle for decades.

Jumanji was adapted as a film in 1995, and Robin Williams (Aladdin, Good Will Hunting), Bonnie Hunt (The Green Mile), Kirsten Dunst (Spider-Man), and Jonathan Hyde (The Mummy) star. Known today as a beloved childhood and family favorite, it’ll be interesting to see how the new reboot will compare to the 1995 adaptation. The computer graphics will of course be much better than 17 years ago, but we kind of think that the cheesy CGI makes the film fun to watch today.

No news of casting or a release date has been announced yet, but we’ll keep you posted when it is!

What do you think of a Jumanji reboot? Are you happy, or should the Jumanji legacy stay in the 1995 adaptation? Leave us your thoughts below!

I think the orignal is really great and it is highly unlikely a remake will even come close!

Didn’t they already do this with Zathura?

    • Daughter of Eve

      That’s a sequel, not a remake

        Oh Okay, thanks! :)

  • Daughter of Eve

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! I really hope they don’t remake this.

i would have to agree with your latter statement. though it’s obvious the lion and monkeys are fake, they are actually pretty darn good.

    Boo.

  • Sarah

There is absolutely no reason why this needs to be remade. The original is so good. They’ll just screw it up.

Well, remakes are now taking my childhood films.

  • charlton

I really think they should leave this one alone.

      I second that statement

I hope they leave it alone, especially because the original was filmed in my hometown of Keene, NH. It is something we take great pride in and remaking it would ruin that.

    why?

    Is nothing sacred?!

I don’t want to live on this planet anymore.
    stop remaking my favorites Hollywood.

  • gcw07

I really don’t see the need for this. It really seems pointless and will probably end up being another flop like Total Recall remake was.

let me tell you, i recently saw Jumamji again on ABC Fam and i’ll tell ya – IT HOLDS UP. i suppose i can’t complain too much if it’s an adaptation of the original source material, but i honestly have a hard time accepting there’s another version out there to consider. jumanji will always be robin willian bonnie hunt, and kirsten dunst for me.

  • morsmordre79

Oh, for the love of all things sacred. What’s next, The Goonies? Home Alone? The Breakfast Club?

    Good grief.

rumor has it therese talks of a back to the future remake

      • Em

NOOOO!!!! I will NOT allow that. Only Michael J. Fox is allowed to be Marty McFly

  • http://twitter.com/sahina91 Sahina91

what???? why!!!!!!!! they don’t need to remake such a classic film like Jumanji!

  • http://twitter.com/AsiaAAhmed Asia A Ahmed

Do they not have anymore original ideas, instead of ruining our childhood??

  • http://twitter.com/piccolopooh Paige

    why…???

  • WhatTheGrace

Jumanji is just one of those films that should never be remade!

I’m strongly strongly against it. It’s a classic and it should stay that way. And i bet you any money that it’s going to be in 3D!! >.< It adds absolutely no value to a film!

I feel like i should write a letter to these people!

oh oh, another beloved childhood movie on the chopping block for a remake. Not that all remakes are bad but…I am doubtful that the new Jumanji will be anywhere near as brilliant as the original. Part of it is of course, originality. what could the new one offer that the old one didn’t? Better CGI? 3D? Please.

A new twist? NO! A carbon copy? who wants that?

  • Kailey-wa

Aw, just leave Jumanji alone! Seriously, just come up with a new idea, this film is fantastic and doesn’t need a remake. Plus it hasn’t even been 20 years, what’s the rush?

  • http://twitter.com/dreamfall31 Kevin Slechta

Loved the movie as a kid, but not sure if it holds up as an adult. I probably won’t watch this remake just so it doesn’t ruin my nostalgia for the original!

  • guythateatsmonkeys

I was absolutely TERRIFIED of the original. Re-make could be good- probably not though

  • daff

NOOO!!! THE ORIGINAL WAS PERFECT!! FUCKING HOLLYWOOD!!!

  • ncnapper92

I wouldn’t mind a continuation, the board game is still too mysterious with too many questions about it unanswered. But a remake does not sound good.

  • Jill

I’m actually scared for this. Some great films are just best left alone. PLEASE??
