With “Queen of Hearts,” Once Upon a Time has finished for 2012, but it’ll be back with the second half of season 2 next year!

We returned to Wonderland in this week’s episode, and learned the identity of the Queen of Hearts. David was left in the Red Room while Gold, Regina and Henry prepared for the arrival of Cora in Storybrooke, while in fairytale land, Emma and the others quested for the ink.

After the hiatus, Once Upon a Time returns with “The Cricket Game.” It will air in January, although we don’t yet have the exact date. Not much is known about the episode, but fans are speculating that it will focus on Jiminy Cricket/Archie (played by Raphael Sbarge):

Were you surprised by tonight’s episode? How will we get through the hiatus?!

And most importantly… what will happen next? Share your theories in the comments, and don’t forget to listen to Hypable’s Once Upon a Time podcast Onceable to hear what the hosts have to say about the episode!

I loved it!! The episode sets the tone for next year!! My heart was beating so fast towards the end!! Can’t wait until Jan 2013!!

  • wizardheart83

oh my my!!! emma!!! and and and!!!!!! so anyone can just shove a heart back in? wow surgery in this world must be cheap. and mr gold needs to up the shut and not kick the edge straddling reformed magic addict when she’s writhing on the floor already.

  • Riku

I can’t be the only one who thought of Pirates of the Caribbean during the Emma/Hook showdown.

    • guest

Haha, I just kept waiting for him to call her “Miss Swan.”

  • http://twitter.com/SofMarie93 Sofia Thomas

My heart was pounding so badly at the end. I apologize to anyone that heard me freaking out. But, I absolutely loved it. Every single second. I cannot wait until next year!

  • antonia31

    Poor Regina :(

Also Hook should get even more screen time. He’s by far the most entertaining character on the show now.

  • Martha Jones

Anyone else think Emma’s a total Harry Potter rip off? The chosen one, lol.

    • http://www.facebook.com/lauren.kay2 Lauren Glover

And Cora doesn’t keep her hear in her body…reminds me of the horcruxes.

    • http://twitter.com/rosaliedavid12 Nessa Daae

I got the Harry Potter vibe when Cora couldn’t rip out Emma’s heart because she is the product of love. It reminded me that Voldemort couldn’t touch Harry in the first couple of books because Harry was protected by Lily’s love…

    • Enelya

because there’s never been a ‘chosen one’ before Harry Potter?

    • B.

The concept of the “chosen one” is in thousands of stories, so the connection is bound to happen. Luke Skywalker was an example, as well Richard from The Sword of Truth books (if you guys know those). It’s all over the place. It’s a fundamental aspect of so many stories. Rip off? Then it’s ripping off almost everything.

    • http://www.eigakanthemovietheater.blogspot.com Jenny Leigh

I wouldn’t say rip off, but I would say parallel :)

    • frezb

it wasn’t a rip off but my mind totally went there… I was like OMG OMG HP REF!!!! LOL

  • http://twitter.com/StarkidSims Simone

osidjfosijfisjdofijisdjflknlkyenty!!!!! I CAN’T EVEN. I NEED JANUARY NOW

  • Annie

I may and or may not have been squealing and rolling around on the couch the entire time I was watching this.

  • http://wizforum.proboards.com/ Melissa West

I’ve always thought Emma had magic since the moment when she touched Regina and then Jefferson’s hat started working at the beginning of the season. I can’t wait to see what all she will be capable of in the future. I did feel bad that Regina didn’t even get an invite to dinner, I mean even though she helped Gold at first she did the right thing in the end. Personally I would like to know where Cora keeps her heart since it’s not in the “normal” spot.

I was happy that they had Emma and Snow make it back and reunite with Charming. So we had some loose ends tied up, but I also like the fact they left us with a couple of clif-hangers concerning Cora/Hook coming and Aura/Mulan going to save Philip! Next year needs to hurry up and get here.

    • http://benchpressabear.tumblr.com Joan

“Personally I would like to know where Cora keeps her heart since it’s not in the “normal” spot.” I’m sure that will come to play at some point. That was awesomely clever of Cora. I fully agree with you about Regina.

      • Lucy

I personally think that Cora keeps it behind her left knee.. Nah, It’s probably kept in a much cooler and therefore more important spot. They probably have to travel there from Storybrooke to Wonderland?

        • http://benchpressabear.tumblr.com Joan

LOL I’m hoping she truly meant a different spot in her body. That would make my day ANY day.

          • Lucy

The only other thing I can think of is that the heart that Hook gave to Mulan to put in Aurora is actually Cora’s heart..

  • VideoKilledSeverusSnape

This episode was amazing! Can’t wait until January! Okay, so Mr Gold is going to be looking for his son, who hasn’t been found in Storybrooke yet. Could this mean his son crossed the Storybrooke border or didn’t even go to Storybrooke using the portal (to another land maybe)? as2dfjls4aj5fdsaf;’fsdghhfhguetystyr7676erjurakfsaj976lk hurry up January.

  • clariclaudia13

did anyone else hope that Mulan used hand sanitizer before putting Aurora’s heart back?

  • theaterboy1

I definitely knew who the Queen of Hearts would turn out to be, but I love how they threw Captain Hook into the equation. I love that Regina made the right decision in the end, and I can’t wait for the next episode!

  • phantomoca

    1. Was that Aurora’s heart that was placed back in her chest? Or was it someone else’s?
2.What exactly is Hook going to do in Storybrooke after he skins a crocodile? Open a boat-making business?
    3. Why would Cora leave her heart (presumably) in another dimension?
    4. Regina should be evil again. She was so much more entertaining.
    5. If Aurora and Mulan get Philip back, who should he end up with? On that note, can’t we find another hot guy for Mulan? She deserves better.
    6. Will having/using magic turn Emma evil?

    7. Why did they not just all go back to fairytale land when the portal was opened and leave Storybrooke behind?
    8. Can Belle please get a story of her own?
    9. Bring on Aladdin. Like, yesterday.
    10. Also, can we please had the 12 dancing princesses? Seriously.

    • http://twitter.com/rosaliedavid12 Nessa Daae

yay I love your list I’m going to try to reply.
      1. That was the first thing I thought about when Mulan put the heart back in, but how many hearts would Cora carry around?? Unless she purposely traded Aurora’s for someone else after she left the cell.
      2. ??? I don’t know open a Shakespeare theatre, I’d love to see him recite Hamlet
      3. For safety, she must have many enemies because she seemed shocked at the idea that REgina would want to kill her.
      4. I disagree I like Regina trying to be good for Henry I think it works because Gold is still on the fence, Hook is grey and Cora is pure evil.
      5. Philip should go with Aurora, Mulan doesn’t need a man, she’s a warrior and I’d be fine with her not “needing” a man. If she does get a love interest it should be a dude in distress ;)
      6. I love this idea! Regina can start to recognize this a warn her against it or try to protect Henry. Also it would be a great parenting arc for Charming and Snow.
      7. Because Cora is still there and fairy tale land is different. I imagine that’s what the rest of the season will address though whether to go back or stay.
      8. I completely agree!!! I loved Belle she’s my favorite female Disney character but this show has made her a damsel in distress with no backbone. I hope the writers rewatch the movie and realize Belle use to be strong.
      9. Yes please!!!!!!
      10. hmm

    • Marie

On point 5, it can’t just be me, but does Mulan seem incredibly gay for Aurora? In my fantasy, at least, they get together. :-P

On point 8, I would love that.

On point 9, I would REALLY REALLY love it! And I still want to see Ariel from the Little Mermaid, so badly.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1518152692 Chelsea Clark

Point #1 is exactly what I thought! They got it back from Hook too easily for something not to be afoot.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=17127641 Laura Jurgensmeyer

Number two made me laugh really, really hard.

    • Lucy

Do you think that the heart that Hook gave away was Cora’s heart? That would make it slightly more interesting

  • Kate

I really hope Mulan put the right heart back into Aurora. How exactly do you tell the hearts apart? And I’m concerned about what swallowing all that magic (or whatever it was) will do to Regina. The reunion was sweet. <3 That was so interesting, what happened with Emma. Oh, and I totally got a 'Pirates' vibe from Hook several times, lol.

    • Samma

No one is supposed to absorb that much energy. I’m pretty sure Regina will just have to regenerate and come back as David Tennant.

      • http://twitter.com/notenoughpuff Sarah

I think I just fell in love with you for that comment.

      • http://twitter.com/StarkidSims Simone

        bless you

  • Kate

Oh and I’ll be spending the break reading “The Annotated Hobbit”, to prepare for the film. :)

  • BlueNargles

This episode was amazing! I wonder if absorbing the green-lightning gave Regina special powers, and if Aurora and Mulan’s friendship will be hurt when (if?) Philip returns.

Also, did anyone else think it was strange that Storybrooke was all old-timey-black-and-white through the eyes of Cora and Hook? That’s not a time traveling ship, is it? Come to think of it, where did they get the ship? That bean could have taken them anywhere. And if it took them to Neverland, is there a chance that Bae/Peter Pan is hiding below deck?

And if true love is the most powerful magic, and Emma is the product of true love, she has very powerful magic, and can defeat Cora, right? Or is that too easy? After all, her love for Regina counts as true love.

Finally, I felt really bad for Regina this episode. Evil Queens need to eat too!

    • http://twitter.com/rosaliedavid12 Nessa Daae

I don’t think Cora loves Regina, she was willing to kill her until she found out that Regina still needed her. I think Cora likes the idea of controlling Regina but doesn’t love her, after all she did say “Love is weakness”

      • BlueNargles

I get that, and I agree that Cora wants to be controlling, but that doesn’t mean she doesn’t love her daughter, even if it’s a warped, twisted, psychotic way. Maybe Cora wanted to kill Regina for the same reason — love is weakness — that Regina wanted to kill Cora (the enchanted apple doesn’t fall far from the tree, haha)
I think she ultimately wants to be allies with her daughter, but has never been able to reconcile that wish with Regina’s independent personality or separate it from her own domineering nature.

        • http://benchpressabear.tumblr.com Joan

Yeah, but what is love then? When love is “corrupted”, doesn’t it become another thing?

    • Enelya

It’s hook’s ship, he’s probably had it stashed somewhere since he got back from Neverland, Bae didn’t go to Neverland, he went to ‘our’ land, because it’s the only place without magic, the fairy wanted him to take Rumple there so that he wouldn’t be all evil magicy anymore

      • Daughter of Eve

I agree, but a part of me thinks that might be when Bae wanted Rumple to leave behind magic and since Rumple didn’t go with him, maybe Bae went to another place that isn’t ‘our’ land.

  • Jake

I definitely think this would have made a good regular season finale. It makes me wonder what the Season 2 finale will be like! I enjoyed that Emma and Snow made it back, because it was about time, you know? It was fun while it lasted, but it would have seemed really repetitive if they continued to just wander around episode after episode.

I really hope it doesn’t center around Jiminy, though it probably will. The name of the next episode says it all. What I really want to say though, is well done to all of the cast and the writers and everyone involved for a great season so far, and for, in my opinion, staying on the exact same awesome level as the first season was. :D

  • http://www.facebook.com/jayefields Janine Elizabeth Fields

Sooo how did Cora know about the Prophecy??

  • nova

I hope Henry being really crappy to Regina means she’s going to go dark again. I’m sorry, but the whole Henry hating Regina and loving Emma has always been the weakest part of the show to me. I still feel like I’ve never been given a good reason why Henry would hate Regina so much if she really loves him as much as the writers want us to believe she does. It just makes me hate Henry, like, a lot.

    • Enelya

He’s known she was evil from the start and wanted to take her down………if anything he’s warmed up to her

      • loveregina

yes, but why cant he love her too, i mean shes done good for a while now…rehabilitated evil queens need love too!!!

  • http://forgiveyourmind.tumblr.com/ Tariq

    Emma has magic!!! SO EXCITED.

  • Genny

captain hook more like captain innuendo

  • Genny

captain hook more like captain innuendo

  • http://benchpressabear.tumblr.com Joan

See, Regina is the classic example of why Slytherins are loners and fall back into doing evil things… How rude of everyone else! She was…right there.. watching them go and be happy after she sucked all that magic into her… *deducts points from Emma and Snow, forgives Henry, but gives him a warning*

Anyway, that part aside, I love the whole message that “love is the most powerful weapon of all”. That was so sweet. The weapon we have is looooooove!

    • http://twitter.com/StarkidSims Simone

I don’t know why ‘Gina didn’t just ask to join them

      • http://benchpressabear.tumblr.com Joan

I wouldn’t have felt comfortable enough to ask them, with all the massive baggage she has. My guess would be that I would be unwelcome OR that, if they truly wanted me there, they would have said something… I think Gold pretty much summed up what Regina felt when he said “maybe one day they’ll even invite you to dinner”… :(

        • http://twitter.com/StarkidSims Simone

That scene was so sad :( and Lana’s acting was incredible. Really though if it was my son, I’d just done all that for them and everyone else was going then damn right I would’ve felt comfortable asking! It was rude enough of them not to invite her

        • http://www.eigakanthemovietheater.blogspot.com Jenny Leigh

Gold pretty much nailed it, I agree. He really just said what everyone else was thinking.

  • njandro625

I automatically thought “The Cricket Game” was the game of cricket the Queen of Hearts plays in Alice in Wonderland. Maybe it will be about that and Jiminy.

    • http://www.facebook.com/katgiambruno Kat Giambruno

Where the heck has Jimminy been this season? And I would loooooove to meet more characters from Wonderland! Perhaps Roger Daltry will come back?!

    • Shadowpsykie

      they play croquette

  • RabbitRabbit

I’m sorry but what kind of jerks leaves behind someone who saved them (according to Henry) by themselves. Henry can use the excuse that he still hasn’t learned his manners but Emma and Snow’s manners are appalling!

    • http://twitter.com/StarkidSims Simone

^ THIS. FREAKING ALL OF THIS.

    • whywriterswhy

      MY HEART WEEPS FOR REGINA.

    • Carilyn

Actually, I was confused by this. It wasn’t as if Emma or Snow said to Regina, “oh you can’t come with us.” And to be fair, Henry’s been hanging out with Regina, Emma and Snow just got back. That was a bit awkwardly handled, idk. I think she could have come if she wanted to, but she wanted Henry to be with Emma for a bit. Idk

  • Annom196@yahoo.com

Well Cora in Storybrooke this is going to make things VERY INTERESTING now that shes made it to Storybrooke but the story could be endless now!! I do think a few more characters will come to aid Storyrooke from Fairtale Land (with the mentionings of using the Wraith as a portal)… Storybrooke has been pretty calm before now, but now the storm (the arrival of Cora) has arrived for them I think!!

It will be really cool to see how Cora and Emma play out as Cora has already discovered shes pretty powerless against Emma!! Plus in the new episodes comming it would surprise me to see Mr Gold teach Emma magic protection spells and things to protect Henry and otheres from Cora!!

Cannot wait for the Spring Episodes to start in Janurary! Keep the excitement comming!!

A Great Finale to the Winter episodes howerver cannot wait to see the other 13 episodes (esitmating this is another 22 episode show this year again).

  • tamtam_mg

i just loved this episode.. but can we just have Peter Pan already?! like now….

  • Enelya

Was anyone else half expecting Mulan and Aurora to kiss after she put her heart back in? They’ve been so “I can’t leave you behind, I’ll save you” since the beginning………

    • Marie

I ship it. I ship it hard. It does sound like Phillip will come back at some point and choose one of them, but I still dream of them together.

  • http://hypable.com Selina

Have you guys noticed how Regina and Gold have identical scars/wrinkles on one side of their upper lips? They just appeared recently, too.

  • http://www.facebook.com/katgiambruno Kat Giambruno

My two year old summed up Hook perfectly… “He’s naughty. And handsome.”

    • http://www.eigakanthemovietheater.blogspot.com Jenny Leigh

      smartest two year old ever.

  • Dez

I was absolutely dying throughout the entire episode. From Snow finding the squid ink, to watching Regina speak to her “dead” mother anticipating to rip Regina’s heart out, to learning that Emma breaking the curse was sort of a plan, to Cora almost ripping out Snow’s heart but getting our new Goddess of Love, Emma instead. This episode was EPIC. I can’t think of a better word to describe it. I’m so anxious to see what they’re gonna do with Mulan and Aurora now. There must be a reason for their final scene. Are we going to maintain a double storyline from Storybrooke and Fairytale land? Will Rumplestiltskin try to mentor Emma now and show her how to use her magic? He has a history of creating monsters…uh oh! I loved that dialogue exchange from Emma to Cora though..
Cora: “Don’t you understand, love is weakness.”
Emma: “No, it’s strength” and blows that bitch away.

  • http://www.eigakanthemovietheater.blogspot.com Jenny Leigh

Ok everyone we have to admit — Henry is a little brat for what he did to Regina. “We’re all going to go celebrate! Thanks for saving my birth mom, but you’re not invited.”
He better get a spanking for that little stunt! He just ruined everything Regina’s been working for!!!

    • Dez

1000% agreed. My heart is with Regina more than ever. She’s managed to win us (Evil Regals) over as the Evil Queen, and as a loving mother. How the heck?!

      • http://www.eigakanthemovietheater.blogspot.com Jenny Leigh

So true! She is what they call a very layered character :) I also loved the dress she mourned her mother in, it looked so much like the classic one from the Disney movie I think!!

        • Dez

I noticed that too! I think the crown piece she was wearing made it that much better ;). Did anyone else think Cora was gonna rip out Regina’s heart once she sat the rose down and got that close? She even used her left arm to reach down…perfect timing for Cora.

          • http://www.eigakanthemovietheater.blogspot.com Jenny Leigh

I know, the anticipation killed me! It makes me wonder why Regina was so ready to believe that her mother was still alive, if the last time she saw her Cora was “dead”!

  • Conifer17

They are doing an amazing job with making me feel sympathetic for Regina. This episode was amazing. :-) I was on the edge of my seat, figuratively speaking, for all 43 minutes. I’m a very satisfied fan :-)

  • Strumchick

Quick question, what exactly happened to Katherine this season? Just saying, she kinda vanished.

  • Marie

Random thought: Couldn’t Henry have just kissed David out of the curse? Like, I’m assuming they do love each other in a paternal/son type of way, and if Emma could kiss Henry out of it, why couldn’t he kiss David out of it?

  • RoseRed

Henry should’ve just invited Regina to lunch with them ………

  • HarryHungerAvatar12

Is it sad that i’m not sad with the ending? I thought that Mary Margret and Emma wouldn’t get back to Storybrooke and it will leave us in a big cliff hanger. But they did come back and Charming is back from the red room so we should be good? Aurora and Mulan are setting out for a quest and the main cast are all together. What to be sad about? I know Hook and Cora are heading to Storybrooke but still the ending was so happy. Regina was the ONLY thing that made me so sad. But overall the episode was AMAZING! I can’t wait for more Fairy tale characters to come.Like Aladdin, Jafar, Jasmine, Ariel, Peter Pan, Tinker Bell. But a question. isn’t the Enchanted World fulled with not just fairy tale people but Myths to. I mean you have the wraith, and Lancelot which isn’t really a folktale.

  • shadezero

When Cora tried to steal Emma heart I couldn’t help but be reminded of the end of the Matrix Revolution when Mr. Smith tries to corrupt Neo. The scenes were exactly the same, kind of wonder if they did that on purpose or if it was an accident.

  • http://twitter.com/taylie27 Taylore Thompson

Thank heavens Snow White and Emma can change clothes now!!!

  • Teranel

I liked the ending of the episode (because I like happy(ish) endings), but I was expecting a more heart-rending and much bigger cliffhanger to leave us with until January. I thought if TPTB really wanted to be cruel, they’d end the episode after Rumple used magic on the portal, and then that would leave us wondering a) whether Emma and Mary Margaret or Cora and Hook would make it into the portal first and b) what would happen to them with Rumple’s magic blocking the way, in which case I would end up yelling at the tv for quite some time, but then I looked at the time and there was still 15 minutes left, so I realized they were going to resolve that somehow this episode. And then after that, I kept expecting something else to go wrong, like David not waking up or something. And I suppose Cora and Hook making it to Storybrooke after all counts as “something bad” but we don’t actually know what they’ll do, beside Regina and Gold telling us it’ll be bad.

  • Elisha

THE WICKED WITCH OF THE WEST IS SO GONNA BE ON THE SHOW! Anybody catch the Oz reference? When Gold is in the mine with Regina and she asks “How are we gonna do that?”, Gold says “With a little help from a fairy. Dead one. Believe me, no one mourns her.”

When Regina was sucking the bad green energy from the well, her face turned greenish for a bit – for a SECOND I expected her to turn green and become the Wicked Witch of the West, but that wouldn’t have made sense haha

    • Elisha

Also, massive lols at the whole scene with Emma at Hook by the lake – “When I jab you with my sword, you’ll feel it”

  • Lilly

I want Henry’s father to be Rumpel’s son!
