FX has announced that they’ve renewed American Horror Story for season 3.
The miniseries was created by Ryan Murphy and is currently airing its second season entitled Asylum. Murphy broke the mold with a horror genre tv show which shocked fans in the first season when all of the main cast were killed off. The award winning series has been breaking its own records with it’s second season. The season 2 premiere of American Horror Story: Asylum alone brought in 3.85 million viewers and held the number 2 program spot in the Adults 18-34 demographic. Last night’s episode “I Am Anne Frank” – Part 2 was the number 1 program in the Adults 12-34, Women 18-34, and Men 18-34 for the 10 PM spot. It also held the number 3 spot in Adults 18-34 overall.

After the first season of American Horror Story finished creator Ryan Murphy revealed that each year the show would have a completely new storyline which would have nothing to do with the previous season. The third season will begin filming next summer and premiere for the fall 2013 season.
Fans can rejoice knowing that like last year, many of the cast from Asylum will be returning for season 3. Including the show’s leading lady Jessica Lange who won several awards for her portrayal of Constance in the first season.
The decision was an easy one for John Landgraf, President and General Manager of FX Networks who said, “With American Horror Story: Asylum, Ryan and Brad have raised the bar in every way from Murder House, the first American Horror Story miniseries. And their original idea—the notion of doing an anthological series of miniseries with a repertory cast—has proven groundbreaking, wildly successful and will prove to be trendsetting. We can’t wait to see what deviously brilliant ideas they come up with for their third miniseries.”
The goal of the first season was to scare up the viewers, while the second season has focused on being a psychological thriller. What do you think Murphy will bring to the table with season 3?
