Game of Thrones has filled the role of Roslin Frey, adding another small-but-significant part to the sprawling roster for season 3.

Winter Is Coming reports that actress Alexandra Dowling will – at least briefly – join the third season of Game of Thrones in the role of Roslin Frey. Dowling’s CV, which shed light on her casting, shares small roles in the BBC’s Merlin and one feature film.

The role of Roslin Frey is not a major one, though it will be instantly familiar for fans familiar with A Storm of Swords, the third novel in the Song of Ice and Fire book series. Roslin is the fifth daughter of Walder Frey, Lord of the Crossing, by his sixth wife. Lord Frey was vividly portrayed in season 1 (and set to return this year) by David Bradley. House Frey was not featured in season 2, but Lord Walder was dealt a significant insult last year as Robb Stark broke his betrothal to an unselected daughter of that House, instead following his heart and marrying the Volantine healer Talisa. Every action has its consequences in Game of Thrones, and the fallout from Robb’s decision will certainly play a role in the show’s third season.

The first two seasons of Game of Thrones have matched the pace of the first two novels in A Song of Ice and Fire, but this pattern is set to change somewhat in season 3. The upcoming season of the HBO series will chronicle approximately half the story told in A Storm of Swords and will use its presumed fourth season to portray the events of the novel’s latter half.

Author George RR Martin has also confirmed that he will be scripting the seventh episode of season 3, tentatively titled “Autumn Storms.” Martin penned the highly memorable episode “The Pointy End” for season 1, and the explosive “Blackwater” for season 2. Both episodes provided pivotal moments in their respective seasons, and we can’t wait to see what exciting material Martin will be responsible for this year.

Not major? She is an important part of one of the biggest scenes in this season!

Yes, but the character itself is only incidental to the story. I like Roslin very much though, and I’m glad they’ve cast the role.

Oooooo I just read those chapters the other night and sat there in shock for a couple minutes! I am really excited for this scene! I wonder if this will be where they end the season?

That’s great she’s been cast ,it gives me an idea how far the show will go compared to the books.
