In preparation for tomorrow’s “The Patriot in Purgatory” episode of Bones, new spoilers about the case and the toll it takes on the Jeffersonian team have come out.
The case will even affect Dr. Brennan (Emily Deschanel) who at times has difficulty expressing her emotions. Brennan sees the connection between the 9/11 victims and her partner-in-crime, Booth (David Boreanaz).
In an interview with TV Line, Deschanel explores how Brennan has changed since the beginning of the show and through her relationship with Booth. “She could turn off her humanity, in a way. And now she can’t. “Having a partner in her life makes her feel things she couldn’t feel before. She opens up to [Booth] and that brings them closer together.”
In a separate interview with TV Line, executive producer Stephen Nathan says that Booth and Brennan will explore the emotional aftermath of September 11. “[It] affects them very deeply as a couple,” adds Nathan. “They found something between them that they had never discussed. They had never opened that wound — a wound that they both have.
As seen in the video below guided by Cam (Tamara Taylor) the episode is more intense both for the audience, the cast and characters.
The episode also explores the plight of military veterans, which is fitting as the episode airs the day after Veterans Day. The episode and the team behind Bones were honored by the Los Angeles City Council with a proclamation that recognizes the series in general as well as this specific episode in light of the issues it addresses.
