Another sad day in the news for Teen Wolf fans. It seems our denial was for naught, dear Wolf Pack members – MTV has confirmed that Haynes is leaving the show.

Yesterday we told you that there had been reports of Colton Haynes (Jackson) leaving the show before the beginning of the third season. This was followed up by a cryptic tweet from the actor himself, staying positive but clearly addressing a change in his life (even if he didn’t specifically state what it was).

Later that day, executive producer Jeff Davis tweeted the following, also sharing in our feelings about the supposed announcement:

Fans have held their breaths since yesterday, hoping against hope (and all logical reasoning) that the reports were false. Alas, it wasn’t meant to be.

MTV posted on its Facebook page today that the rumors were true, addressing its own shock and confusion at the news:

We were just as surprised and disappointed as Colton’s fans to read out about his decision to leave the show. We want him to return for a third season, as he has for the past two, but if this is his decision we respect that and will wish him all the best. We are excited for what Jeff Davis and producers have in store for our incredible cast in the upcoming third season.

We don’t think anyone – fans, cast, crew, or the MTV higher-ups – would have any problem if Haynes decided to rejoin the show, even as just a guest star. Considering he had a significant role in season 2 and the story was obviously heading in a direction that would feature him for season 3, we’re incredibly curious to see what Davis & Co. will do with the story now that one of their major players is out of the game.

If we can’t have Jackson back, we hope at least that he’ll get a proper send-off. Whether or not that send-off will be on screen has yet to be seen. As always, we’ll be sure to keep you in the loop.

How do you think Jackson will be written out of the show?

Perhaps it will be like the whole Chord Overstreet thing with Glee and Colton will come back after a few episodes if he can’t get better work.

    • Karen Rought

I would be completely okay with that!

^ This is what I really want.

He’s already set to play Roy Harper (Speedy) on the new CW show “Arrow.”

    • NoelleCD

Yeah, but Chord didn’t leave by choice. The writers wrote him out and he was brought back by popular demand. In this case, it seems Colton made this decision himself, and even though the producers are acting like there are no hard feelings, I find it hard to believe that Colton didn’t burn some bridges not coming back for the third season and leaving the writers in such a bind.

    NOOOOO.

  • ravenclaw1991

I’m hoping they write him as a guest star, it seems everyone is willing for him to come back at anytime, so I don’t see why not. If not, I’m not sure how they should write him off.

    WTF. Not cool. D:

Excuse my french but that really fucks everything up on multiple accounts. The ending was kind of very open ended, a lot of season three would’ve been spent explaining the blue eyes – and what happens to Lydia and Jackson’s relationship. Speaking of which I guess with Colton leaving that squashes any chance of Sterek happening. Suppose it probably wouldn’t have happened anyway but now Jeff will like pair up lydia and stiles and it’ll be cliche and boring like all MTV shows are destined to.

    Officially bummed.

That is exactly what I’m worried about too. With Jackson leaving, Lydia will be single (and heartbroken), leaving Stiles with no reason not to try and get her like he’s been trying to since he was in third grade. I actually started to believe Sterek might actually be made cannon with all the hints Jeff has been dropping about considering it and with them winning the Ultimate Slash Madness Tourney poll, but now, Sterek has basically no chance at all. If Stiles and Lydia get together, I will lose a lot of interest in the show, being a major Sterek fan and all – Not enough to lose all interest in the show (yet), but enough to ruin a lot of my love for it. I really hope Jeff Davis doesn’t pair them together.

My goodness I never even thought of the Stiles/Lydia thing. Now there can’t possibly be Sterek. :-(
I was just thinking of all the hints we’ve been given about finding out about his parents, finding out why he came out of the water after being bitten by Derek, why his eyes were blue when he turned wolfie.
Bet the writers are majorly pissed off with having to adjust all that….
Arggg, I’m so pissed off too.

I’ve had a little time to calm down, and maybe a panel or something helped. If Jeff keeps to his word that Lydia and Stiles remain friends then I’m cool with that. I understand people want to go on and do other things so I don’t blame Colton per say but yeah, I’m still very excited for season 3 (24 episodes of awesome, I’m sure, Jeff is a great writer)

Also a new gay character? yes please

I don’t even know what to make of this. Jackson was being set up to be an even bigger part of the show than he already was in Season 2 – so many parts of his character have been set up to be explored in Season 3 and left open at the end of Season 2 – and Colton leaving now just doesn’t make sense for anyone, in my opinion. I don’t know what happened between MTV and Colton but I am majorly bummed.

  • tessonaut

Im gonna assume that because of this blue werewolf eyes will be made into a sickness or cause problems of some sort. I hope Jackson has some sort of redemption before he has to leave.

Sadly Colton is a nincompoop who has gotten too big for his britches and is believing the hype his wackjob manager is filling his head with. It’s a good thing he is pretty, because apparently he sure is dumb. As many have done before and failed, Colton is moving on to “bigger and better” things, forgetting that a few short years ago he was just a pretty boy model who got his SAG card doing extra work on “Transformers” and frankly is not a particularly good actor. He should thank his lucky stars that “Teen Wolf” creator Jeff Davis wrote to his limited strengths as a performer and shot him in a way that emphasized his physical beauty and distracted viewers from his shortcomings as an actor. He should ride the “Teen Wolf” gravy train as far as it will chug. The roads in Hollywood are paved with the carcasses of young actor’s careers who believed there own delusional hype and bit the hand that fed them and “Moved on” before they had earned the right to . This guy is looking a gift wolf in the mouth and I’m sure will be howling at the moon with regret this time next year!

    • NoelleCD

      I second this.

I’m blown away. I might have accepted this had it been O’Brien who left to move onto bigger, better things (seeing as he is definitely the black horse of the cast), but Colton? He definitely made a premature move and it was a mistake.

And to anyone who thinks Colton can just waltz back onto set next year when he doesn’t get any blockbuster roles (like he probably thinks he will) just because the producers are playing nice for the press, think again. No production takes it lightly when a star of the show walks out in the middle of a story arc, leaving the writers in a bind.

Like you said, he’ll regret this stupid, premature move come this time next year. Probably sooner.

I *hate* this. Jackson was actually one of my favorite characters. I can’t believe that he won’t be in the third season, especially given the fact that he was given a major storyline in season 2. :(

    :/

  • http://twitter.com/xRomix3 Romina Korte

That’s so upsetting. He was one of my fave characters…. The only thing that gives me hope is the fact, that Jeff confirmed Lydia and Stiles not becoming a pair even with Jackson gone. Then Sterek could actual still happen. (:
But I wish him all luck of the world. He’s a good person and deserves it to be lucky.
