Two Grey’s Anatomy fan favorites won’t be having it easy in the next few episodes. See what challenges are ahead for Callie and Meredith in these new spoilers.
Just because Callie wasn’t on the infamous plane crash of season 8 that doesn’t mean she has it easy. On the contrary she might have it the hardest of any of the characters. Not only did she lose her best friend and father of her daughter, Mark, but she is also dealing with a depressed and disabled spouse. Sara Ramirez notes that Callie has suffered some rather large emotional scars because of the crash. Ramirez tells TV Line that Callie’s “life and her child’s life are affected, greatly. And we see her having to grapple with the constant reminder of what’s happened, not being able to get away from it.” As we saw in the new season 9 trailer Callie won’t be able to play nice with Arizona forever, at some point she’s going to get fed up with her wife refusing to get out of bed.
Meredith also has some emotional battles coming up. Although she managed to get out of the plane crash without injury (as far as we know), Meredith definitely left with some huge emotional baggage. She has yet to deal with the fact that her sister died in the crash and she didn’t get to say goodbye or be there when it happened. Now it’s been revealed that Meredith will have to face the truth of the matter in the upcoming episode centered around Meredith and Cristina entitled “Beautiful Doom” which is currently scheduled for Nov 1.
If you’re worried that season 9 might be too heavy to handle there is some light at the end of the tunnel. Kevin McKidd reports that while the first three episodes deal with the topic of the plane crash the fourth will be comedic. McKidd directed the episode to air Oct. 25 and assures fans that “We needed some lightness. It’s good to be dark for a while, but people like to have their lightness… the more kind of slightly zany, screwball stuff that Grey’s does so well. Tonally it’s so different from the first three episodes of the season.”
