Avatar: Last Airbender and Legend of Korra co-creator Brian Konietzko has cleared up recent rumors about a Legend of Korra movie which was recently rumored to be in the works from Paramount.

Here’s what he had to say in a post on Tumblr:

“I just wanted to clear up this rumor, since friends and colleagues keep asking us if it is true. The origin was an article in Variety where the journalist speculated about “possible Nickelodeon products that could be turned into films” including our show, and a lot of other online news outlets ran with it thinking it was a scoop.

Mike and I do have a good relationship with the execs at Paramount, and we would love to write/direct an animated Korra feature film sometime, but let me just repeat that there is nothing in development on that, with or without us, at this time. Even if there were, I don’t know when or how we’d do it! There’s still the business of these remaining 40 episodes of the TV show we are making. But hopefully one day, not too far in the future, Mike and I will be able to announce otherwise.

In the meantime, someone get crackin’ on some fan animation of Mako doing a couple of these moves. K, thanks.”

On the upside at least M. Night Shyamalan cannot ruin another great series. What do you think of this news? Are you glad he hasn’t completely ruled out the possibility of a Legend of Korra movie in the future?

I just had the same reaction. I know they got renewed for one more season, but I didn’t think it’d be so long! (not that I’m at all complaining of course)

Renewed for three more seasons actually.

Actually they were renewed, recently, for a third and fourth seasons. Season two was already in production.

Ah, I see. I didn’t hear about that. Quite cool.

There will be three more seasons or “books” of the Legend of Korra. So there will be a total of 52 episodes which includes the first book’s 12 episodes. Book 2 will be entitled “Spirit” and will air in early 2013.

I only want a movie if Bryan and Michael are heading.

Why is everything about Kora a “news by you”? Isn’t it hypable’s job to cover this stuff?

A stand alone, not a retelling of, live action movie with “good” acting and “good” direction would be awesome. It could be done. But…only if Michael and Bryan are calling the shots/ writing it.
