Hermione Granger actress Emma Watson has been interviewed by The New York Times, and within the article are a few interesting tidbits from Watson about her future acting plans.

Most notable are her comments on why she wanted to join Guillermo Del Toro’s Beauty and the Beast, which she’ll star in as Belle. The news was first reported in February.

Said Watson: “I’m doing a film with Guillermo [del Toro] next summer, and I went to him and said Warner Brothers have given me the script for ‘Beauty and the Beast,’ but the only way I’d really want to do it is if you did it. And then miraculously he said, ‘Oh, funnily enough ‘Beauty and the Beast’ is my favorite fairy tale, I can’t let anyone else do this, I’ll start putting a team together.’ ”

Sounds like a match made in heaven! We’re excited to see this classic fairytale come to life. No word yet on who will play the Beast.

Visit this link to read more from Watson, including some talk on her other upcoming film projects.

Watson can next be seen in The Perks of Being a Wallflower, out in September.

This sounds like a great movie. I had no idea that Del Toro was directing it so now I’m really exited.

It’s about time we get a proper live-action Beauty retelling! I’m excited for this.

You know Emma’s a big deal when she can just be like, “I’ll only do it if Del Toro directs” and they bow to her every whim! muhahahaha

  • verity

Oh this should be really good!! Very exciting!

oh wow this should be amazing!!

I am so glad Watson made that request :) I love them both! As well as the story :D

    • Franko3

Yeah, good for her – she’s as bright as Hermione for sure. He’s a great director.

This is extremely exciting! This is my favorite fairy tale, and I know Del Toro will do it right.

OH MY GOSH SO EXCITING! Bell is one of the most intelligent and courageous  Disney “princesses” and she is perfect for Emma to make a new name for herself!

  • upper_westsider

Del Toro’s films are always interesting.  This should be good.

I read the whole interview and thought it was odd.  IMO, the writer spent more time relaying stories about himself and his children than Emma.  Emma is a really bright and interesting person.  I don’t think the interview was enough about her.

    • Marly

I read the article too, and I agree. It was such a strange piece, and I can’t help but think that the author really didn’t care too much about his interview, more what he got out of it.

  • Sarah

Thank you, Emma, for guaranteeing the adaption will be stellar. Everything Del Toro touches is gold.

    i’m so excited for this!

  • Emsux

Such bs.  Does no one remember Del Toro saying he imagined Emma for it?  So now she was the one who called the shots?

    • BlueBronze

She didn’t say she called the shots. It can be both ways, you know: Del Toro imagined Emma for the role and Emma imagined Del Toro as the director and it all lined up.

        I think some *#$%$@ up inception went down . . . .

    • guest

your username is such a tell-tale of douchiness that just- do us a favor? STFU.

    • http://twitter.com/aadnama Amanda Douglas

Where does it say that she called the shots? It just said that Emma said the only way she would do the movie would be if Del Toro did it.

  • Reilly

Ryan Gosling or Michael Fassbender for the Prince/Beast character please!

    • Seamus MacGillicuddy

Fassbender would be too much for me. The dude’s wang is the size of Emma Watson. Ron Pearlman was an awesome Beast, but this will be a different character. Gosling is just too damn sexy. It’s a really difficult call to make. I guess it depends on what the role is demanding.

  • AshQuill

Hm, for some reason, the first person that popped into my head for Beast was Matt Bomer…

  • Zack

This will be based on the ACTUAL fairytale, not a sugar coated version, right?

    • http://twitter.com/twixie09 Lauren Gizzi

Three words for you: Guillermo del Toro. He does not sugar coat anything. ;)

  • Ariadne

I think either Matt Bomer,Henry Cavill or Chris Hemsworth should play the beast and i kinda see Ian Somerhalder as Gaston. Also i want to see Stanley Tucci for Belle’s father!

    • Guest

I’d love to see Ian as Gaston! As we can see in TVD, he can definitely pull off arrogant. I think he’d be great :D

    • Ekta

      Stanley Tucci! Yay! Agree.

  • Kimber

I think Rob Pattinson should be the beast

  • DREW/Harmony

I would like Daniel Radcliffe to play as beast. Heh. Sorry not sorry.

So excited for Del Toro to helm this film. He is one of my favorite directors and he has an unique artistic style. Can’t wait to see what he does for Beauty and the Beast

  • http://www.facebook.com/nani.lawrence Nani Lawrence Weasley

Rupert Grint should be the beast…..

  • Guest

Well, I love the fairytale, but I don’t really see Emma Watson as Belle…Also, I can’t watch her without thinking how the HP movies screwed up Hermione’s character. She was one of my favorite characters in the books, but in the movies they made her SO annoying! (I’m not necessarily blaming Emma for that, but that’s what it makes me think of.)

  • Jack

I think there should be a scene where the beast ravages her body. Go ahead and rate it R ;)

  • Liz Lemon

Awesome. I can’t wait to see her in this role and it’s excellent to finally get a start date for filming. She’s so freaking busy. I don’t understand how she finds the time to sleep considering how many movies she’s made since Potter has wrapped. She’s currently in Iceland filming “Noah” (with Darren Aronofsky, Russell Crowe, Anthony Hopkins, Logan Lerman, etc) and by the sounds of it she’ll start filming this movie right after she graduates from Brown (presumably in May since she’s going back to school to finish her last semester in January). Seriously, there’s NO way she sleeps.
