The X-Men: First Class sequel has been confirmed to be titled X-Men: Days of Future Past by producer Bryan Singer.

“It’s going to be very ambitious… It deals with aspects of that comic, but also some new things,” said Singer. The story will revolve around the 1981 comic that saw a future version of Kitty Pryde, where she attempts to prevent the murder of Senator Robert Kelly.

This story was also the first time we got a look at Cyclops and Phoenix’s alternate reality daughter, Rachel Grey.

You may remember that there were some conflicting schedules for X-Men: First Class actor Jennifer Lawrence after The Hunger Games became a global hit due to her already signing a deal to be in X-Men: Days of Future Past. This resulted in director Gary Ross leaving The Hunger Games franchise.

X-Men: Days of Future Past is set to hit theaters July 18, 2014. What do you think of the new title? Anyone excited about the idea of time travel potentially being used?

So what they’re basically saying is that they have decided to throw all semblance of continuity with the first 3 X-Men movies out the window. Allright. If it means they’ll bring back Gambit(and recast him hopefully), then I’m all for it :)

Completely agree with you on Gambit and also recasting him.

This sounds like its not going to live up to first class but I’ll still go see it.

So does this mean Kitty and Jean and Cyclops are all appearing or is future Kitty and Rachel going to show up and go…”Oh, I’m a future X-men from an even farther future?” or “I’m the alternate reality daughter of two x-men you haven’t met yet?”

They better actually read the comic book on this one.

They said they were only going to add one new main character so I’m hoping its Kitty and maybe she can go back in time and help the original team stop Mystique (original conspirator) and Magneto

I think this is a good idea, cuz it gives them the chance to explore characters we’ve seen from the first trilogy, without stepping on their toes. I’d be interested in an alternate version of some of the characters. Plus, if you set it in the 80s, think of all the gloriously neon fashions!!! =D

First Class was an interesting movie, and it was sometimes exciting. But I found it disjointed and overall just a little boring. The introduction of time-travel makes me think this second one will be even more disjointed and just as underwhelming.

er… don’t kill me, but is Phoenix supposed to be Jean Gray?

      Yep :)

During an emergency mission in space, the X-Men find their shuttle damaged. Jean pilots the shuttle back to Earth, but is exposed to fatal levels of radiation. Dying, but determined to save Cyclops and her friends, Jean calls out for help and is answered by the cosmic entity, the Phoenix Force. The Phoenix Force, the sum of all life in the universe, is moved by Jean’s dedication and love and takes the form of a duplicate body to house Jean’s psyche. In that instant, the Phoenix Force is overwhelmed and believes itself to be Jean Grey and places Jean’s dying body in a healing cocoon. – Wikipedia. :)

This is … interesting. That storyline seems kind of farfetched to exist in movie universe of X-Men. Seeing as Kitty wouldn’t have even even been born yet, I’m thinking the concept will remain but the characters involved will change.

I’m also wodnering how the alternate universe will be handled. I feel like, if handled properly, they maybe have a chance of reconnecting all the different movie continuities. There are so many contradictions between the films that I’d like to see resolved in some way. This could be like the Star Trak reboot in terms of story if done correctly.

Even though I love the X-Men movies, there are just so many continuity errors, it makes them hard to watch. I hope this movie fixes them.

I dont like the idea of time travel. I liked Xmen, because before it was actually possible to have mutants (In some form anyway) but timetravel is just way to different. It wont fit in with the original story line anyway.
