Steven Moffat took time out from writing the Doctor Who Christmas Special to talk to BBC5 radio about Doctor Who, Sherlock, and his BAFTA award.

Steven Moffat is his usual circumspect self, but he did drop a few things such as a comment on working with the new Companion. “Jenna [Louise-Coleman] is wonderful, and spiky and salty and clever.”

Additionally, Moffat had high praise for Andrew Scott, who just picked up a BAFTA as Best Supporting Actor. Scott plays Moriarity in Sherlock.

Also, in case you are wondering what happens when they get to Doctor number 13, don’t worry, Moffat has a plan!

Did you agree with Steven Moffat that audiences want more complex stories?

YES. The more complex the story, the more my head hurts, and the more emotionally unstable I become. PERFECT

Notice when the interviewer asked whether Moriarty’s alive, Moffat didn’t actually answer…?

That’s because he’s a giant troll.  Mark Gatiss has already said that the only reason why they didn’t show bits of skull and brain splatter all over the St. Bart’s rooftop is because there’s no way in hell BBC would allow that to air.  So they had to keep it to blood.  For decency. :P

I don’t want them to carry on with Moriarty though, end on the high note that the show did end on instead of trying to bring him back as well. I’d like to see him tackle a new “enemy” for season 3

I love the complexity, so yeah – bring it on, Moffat!! Just don’t break my heart. Again.

My theory on regeneration after the thirteenth Doctor is that in “Let’s Kill Hitler” when River Song gave up her regenerations to save the Doctor, she didn’t only bring him back to life, she (probably unknowingly) gave him the regenerations she hadn’t used.

it’s a great theory.  But where’s the complexity in that?

  • Oscar

I know everyone says that River gave the Doctor her regens, or that the 506 thing from SJA is true, but personally I think that’s just too big a story to have it solved so easily. I could see that make a whole season of really BIG stories, leading up to 13′s regen. It’ll have to involve bringing back the Time Lords, I think – they could give him more regens in the same way as the Master got new ones. But then, what would be the conditions under which they’d give him his new regens? What an interesting story that would be.

“Make something up.” Perfect answer! I’m all right with Moffat making stuff up.

I don’t want to read any of the other comments because I’m only just about to start Series 6. I have no problem with complex parts, but it’d be nice if Doctor Who toned down a bit. The universe doesn’t need to be at risk every series finale for us to watch.
