The nominations for the British Academy Television Awards have just been announced, and the stars of Sherlock have been recognised for their incredible performances in the show! Benedict Cumberbatch, Martin Freeman and Andrew Scott have been nominated for their portrayal of Sherlock, John and Moriarty respectively.

Cumberbatch is nominated for Best Leading Actor, competing against Dominic West, John Simm and Misfits‘ Joeseph Gilgun (nominated for This Is England ’88). Meanwhile, Freeman and Scott will be competing against each other for the Best Supporting Actor award. The duo also face competition from Joeseph Mawle and Stephen Rea.

Controversially, the show itself didn’t receive a nomination for Best Mini Series – something that was thought to be guaranteed by many fans and industry insiders. Last year Sherlock won Best Drama Series for its first series, but due to a tweaking of the rules, was not eligible for the award this year. The change meant that the show could receive a nomination for Best Mini Series, but it didn’t make it to the final four. Steven Moffat and company can take some comfort in the four nominations they received for the Television Craft Awards last week.

You can view a full list of the nominations here. The winners will be announced during a ceremony on May 27.

Who would you pick for Best Supporting Actor – Freeman or Scott? Are you disappointed Sherlock wasn’t recognised in the Best Mini Series category?

Since Freeman got it last year, I’ll go for Andrew Scott. But really I’d be thrilled with either of them!

If Benedict doesn’t get this award, it’s a crime! Also, I’m disappointed ‘White Heat’ wasn’t nominated in any category, such a good show.

Oh, fuck you, I won a BAFTA.

I hate when they change the rules of awards. Sherlock better sweep.

I would say that, technically, Andrew falls into the ‘Guest Star’ category, but it’s probably a pointless thing to complain about considering they obviously aren’t playing by the same rules.
Heck, there may not even be a ‘Guest Star’ award. Who knows? Not me, that’s for sure.

I want them to win all the ones their nominated just to spite BAFTA for not nominating them in best mini-series. And obviously because they deserve it so much
