Following its fifth weekend in theaters, The Hunger Games is now the nineteenth highest-grossing film of all time domestically.

And it’s set to go higher. Why?

The film will be re-released in IMAX this Friday for one week only, which will surely bring out first and repeat viewers alike.

The Hunger Games has generated $357 million in the United States and is within $20 million of the next five spots.

Thanks to Box Office Mojo and Mockingjay.

It will top potter, but it’s worldwide total may only reach 650mil that’s lower then potters lowest box office success. And that less money than all twilight except the first. They need to advertise big overseas for Catching Fire. Does anyone know if Mokingjay will be split?

It wont top Potter. The only numbers that matter are workwide.

It’ll top Potter domestically, cause Potter’s always been bigger outside of North America/USA, I think is what Hehedied meant. But yeah, it won’t top Potter on the worldwide.

yes thats what i meant Heather :) And I agree it wont beat my potter worldwide :)

While it won’t top Potter, Lionsgate has little distribution overseas. While I’m sure they want as high a number as possible on the overseas numbers, they care a lot more about the domestic numbers.

It’s been rumored to be split but not confirmed.

Really? I read in Movie Magic that is was confirmed.

so 9/20 (soon to be 10/20) only have their numbers and possibly their position because they’ve been re-released. That’s a bit like cheating ain’t it.

they did it for avatar too, which i believe was a highly overrated movie….so it only seems fair that a better movie like THG should get its fair share.
