Follow-up: Kellan Lutz wanted to play Gale in ‘The Hunger Games’

Last week we shared comments from Twilight actor Kellan Lutz who had said he wanted to audition for a role in The Hunger Games but was stopped by “the powers that be” because you can’t appear in two big franchises.

Now we’re learning who he wants to play.

Lutz was hoping to audition for Gale – a role that eventually went to Liam Hemsworth, reports Us Magazine.

Do you think he would’ve made for a good Gale? Having seen him as Emmett in Twilight, it seems like he’d be a bit too big for the role.

“can’t appear in two big franchises”? Oh plz RPattz did the same with HP and Twilight. It’s not like he has a huge main role in Twilight. He just isn’t a suitable choice for Gale.

Okey I feel a big AS IF coming up… Seriously? He sees himself as Gale? He talks like if he did get to audition he would get the part.. AS IF!

There’s a reason why people make fun of Twilight.. One of them is the acting in the movies.. it’s obvious to everyone they suck at it. First Ashley Greene compares herself to Angelina Jolie and now this? These kids need a reality check..

Er, did the powers that be forget Robert Pattinson and Sparkly Cedric Diggory? And it’s not as if Emmet is the main character in Twilight, or Gale is in HG. Even Jamie Campbell-Bower was in HP and Twilight. Minor roles, admittedly, but come on, how are they gonna know if theyve definately got ‘the one’ if they dont audition everybody?
I’m not saying he would have been good, or should have got it, all I mean is, if you have someone enthuasiatic about a part, why not see them audition, what harm can it do?

He looks too old to play Gale. He looks to be in his late 20′s or early 30′s. You needed someone looking teens to 20′s.

While I think it’s a shame that he couldn’t appear in both franchises, especially since Emmett is such a minor character in the Twilight movies, he would not have made a good Gale. He looks too old and big.

i think he would be the perfect jace for the mortal instruments, based on looks though, dont really know how he would act

I don’t know how to explain it, but I dislike this guy a lot.
At first, when the first Twilight movie came out, back when I was sort of into it, I liked this guy, and HATED Cam Giga-whatsit who played James. For whatever reason. But at least Cam varies his roles. Kellan Lutz is eternally playing testosterone-fuelled, hot-headed ‘hero’ types, and for some reason, all of it just comes off as arrogance. I don’t know. Generally, I base my opinion of people on interviews, their views, their humor, and maybe I’ve got Kellan Lutz all wrong, but in movies, on camera, when he’s playing his Big Male Bravado Alpha type, I can NOT stand him. Liam Hemsworth has something of a soulfullness to him, I didn’t see him as Gale at first, but now, it fits, it’s fine…especially considering we could have had Kellan Lutz. I’m sorry, I don’t like his acting, the way he plays his characters, it’s like he’s trying to be imposing all the time, there’s never anything more to it than muscle and growling.

He’s too big to be Gale. They’re practically starving at District 12. Cato would have been much better for him, but i don’t even think he’d suit that perfectly.

I feel like ‘the powers that be’ really meant, “Sorry buddy, but you are not really that great of an actor and this role requires more than just standing around and looking pretty and/or broodish”, so they went with the cross-over franchise excuse to spare his feelings.

I don’t get why people have to leave mean comments about him wanting to audition. Like as my mom told me if you have nothing good to say don’t say anything at all. RIP Luv yah mom.
Anyways I don’t think you would of made a good Gale (not that he’s not a good actor!!) but I pictured him as Cato. He seemed better to play him. I think Liam was a Perfect choice for Gale, from the little acting I’v seen in the trailers and from The Last Song. Plus he just looked like what I pictured Gale. (except I pictured his hair as Jon Bon Jovi’s was in the Keep The Faith era, very shaggy) But I think they did a great job with acting choices and I hope Kellan lands another great acting role soon.

I am a Twilight fan, but personally I think he is an awful actor and ruined the character of Emmett, even with his very few one-liners.

I get why they actually did not want to mix up Twilight and THG (fan of both franchises), especially because both franchises are active and still in cinema (Robert Pattinson had a few years between HP and Twilight). Also Kellan does not look like Gale in any shape and form at all.

At the very end, in my opinion they did not cast the most talented actor anyway, but somehow Liam must have had good connections. Personally, he is so far the weakest link of the cast.

Ummmm…..no. Def no. He’s too tall and almost vicious-like for Gale. Liam is perfect. Cato definitely but not Gale.

He’s one of the few actors I actually like from Twilight. He is a cutie. I could maybe see him as Gale. But I reeeally see him as Cato.

That’s why you don’t go out for the Twilight movies… So you can be part of real films with points and a good plot. It is a life lesson everyone must learn.

Everyone is saying that he is a sucky actor just because of twilight… but in reality the movies all together just aren’t that good. You can’t portray the love story that Twilight has that well on the big screen anyway. Which is why The Hunger Games is going to be so amazing because it has a ton of action and also the love portion[PEETA <3 <3 <3] Robert Pattinson is an AMAZING actor in EVERY movie……EXCEPT TWILIGHT. I think the same could be true for kellen lutz but I haven't seen him in anything else….
