Joshua Jackson (Peter), the only Fringe cast member not slated for an appearance at the Comic Con panel yesterday, made a surprise appearance after all – complete with an Observer’s hat! What does it all mean?
If you missed the panel, TV Line has released a very thorough recap of the event.
While the producers did not give much away, Jeff Pinkner did offer the following on Peter’s disappearance:
It’s not that Peter’s consciousness is anywhere. There is no Peter. Peter doesn’t exist. Josh calls everyday, ‘What am I doing this year?’
Joshua Jackson added that while he is definitely coming back at some point, “I think whoever he gets folded back into this season as will be a different version.” Maybe we will be looking at the return of the alternate Peter who died as a child, rather than the version of Peter who disappeared? Would fans be able to accept that? And on that note – did neither version of Peter ever exist, or did one still die as a child?
It was also hinted at that we haven’t seen all of Olivia’s powers yet, and that next year we’ll see more episodes exploring the characters’ backstories. We’ll likely need them, to see what things changed without Peter.
After the panel, Joshua Jackson also spoke to The Hollywood Reporter, but he did not give much more away:
Of course. Peter is at Comic Con, where else? “He could be anywhere – he could be nowhere,” he adds. And season 4 is going to be about seeing the world without Peter. He also says that while some things will be better, others will be worse without him, and Walter and Olivia’s lives were probably better with Peter in them.
Very, very interesting Observer garb Josh Jackson was wearing, though it might be a tongue-in-cheek reference to the many “Peter is an Observer” believers out there! Do you think it means anything for the upcoming season?
