The trailer for Ellen Page’s new movie The Cured just released, and it offers a new spin on the zombie genre.

Some of us started suffering from some sincere zombie fatigue a few years back. With loads of undead-filled television shows and movies releasing, a lot of needed a break from the genre. However, the release of the trailer for Ellen Page’s new movie, The Cured, looks like the zombie movie is getting a new lease on life.

Unlike other zombie movies, The Cured focuses on life after the big outbreak and the breakdown of society. We see humanity as it tries to put the pieces back together, and attempt to welcome back family members and friends who may have done horrible things under the influence of infection.

This movie feels like it sort of has a similar idea that we saw in the BBC series In the Flesh, which also focused on cured zombies re-integrating into society. Of course, these zombies don’t seem to be undead zombies, rather the “driven mad by a pernicious virus/infection zombie” variety. Additionally, the infected in The Cured might not be what they seem, as the trailer also shows them banding together to prey on the uninfected members of humanity.

It’s that idea of what makes a person truly human paired with focusing on life after the big moments of destruction that make The Cured seem to stand out from other zombie movies. While it’s super fun to watch people run from a city overrun with a horde of infected, it’s fascinating to watch a movie that focuses on a society trying to restore some semblance of control after the unthinkable happens.

We’re also really excited to see Ellen Page in this role. It’s not her first foray into gritty films, but it is her first zombie movie. We’re really excited to see her take on the genre with this imaginative film.

‘The Cured’ opens in theaters and VOD on February 23. Will you be watching?
