Leta Lestrange is set to play a big role in coming Fantastic Beasts films as her path crosses with Newt Scamander’s.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them chronicled Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne)’s journey to New York where he met fellow main characters Tina, Queenie and Jacob, who are — presumably — going to join him for the rest of the movie series.

Another character joined the fray very late in the production stages, and had a blink-and-you’ll miss it appearance: Leta Lestrange, played by the Divergent series’ Zoë Kravitz.

But Leta, a presumed relative of Harry Potter villain Bellatrix Lestrange’s husband Rodolphus, is set to have a much bigger and more significant role in upcoming movies.

In an interview with Collider, Kravitz says that, while she knows ‘nothing’ about what’s coming up, “I have an idea, based off of when I auditioned [with Redmayne].”

She also indicates that her character will be appearing in several installments of what is currently being envisioned as a five-movie series, saying, “I think there’s a few [movies] ahead.”

She went on to tease Leta and Newt’s relationship, saying:

“The relationship between Leta and Newt Scamander is a complex relationship, so I think there will be a lot of time for that to grow and develop, which will be fun.”

In Fantastic Beasts, Queenie Goldstein (Alison Sudol), practicing her advanced form of Legilimency on Newt, determined that Leta was a ‘taker’ while Newt is a ‘giver.’

While the logical assumption would be that Leta was in line with the villainous Grindelwald, we can only hope that she’ll be allowed more nuance than simply being a follower/worshiper.

‘Fantastic Beasts 2’ is tentatively set for a 2018 release
