Former One Direction member Zayn Malik will serve as executive producer on the boyband drama Boys, to air on NBC.

It’s not quite the E! True Hollywood Story, but Zayn’s involvement probably brings us pretty damn close: Boys, a new NBC drama from Dick Wolf and Noelle Wolf, will dramatize the formation of a hugely successful One Direction-adjacent boyband, taking viewers through both the glamor and the back-stage drama.

Variety broke this intriguing news story, writing that the series will be inspired by Zayn’s own life and experiences, with a small statement from the man himself.

“Dick Wolf is a legend and the opportunity to work with him and NBC to create a compelling drama series is awesome,” says the young star, who launched a solo career after his high-profile One Direction split.

Beauty and the Beast (the CW version, not Disney) co-creators Sherri Cooper Landsman and Jennifer Levin will write the pilot script.

Executive producing with Zayn Malik are the Wolfs, Amanda Ghost, Landsman, Levin, and Peter Jankowski, with Gregor Cameron serving as co-EP.

And yes, the show will have original music! None other than Zayn Malik’s manager Sarah Stennett will serve as executive music producer, making us wonder if perhaps there won’t be some Zayn songs on the Boys soundtrack…

The show is coming to NBC, which makes sense considering that this is the network that also brought us the very successful (if too short-lived) musical drama Smash.

Now we can’t wait to find out what the Boys boyband will be titled. Too bad New Directions is already a thing.
