Appearing on Conan, Zachary Quinto takes a moment to reflect on his Star Trek co-star Leonard Nimoy.

Leonard Nimoy passed away earlier this month after a long battle with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. He was 83.

Actor Zachary Quinto was one of the first to publicly commiserate about Nimoy’s passing; Quinto of course took over the role of Spock in J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek reboot movies.

Appearing on Conan O’Brien’s late-night show to promote The Slap, Quinto had some more touching words to share about his co-star and friend:

The visibly affected Quinto says, “We were very, very close, and losing him was really difficult obviously. But I feel so grateful that I knew him and that he was such an instrumental figure in my life. And he lived a beautiful life, and a full life.”

“In the end there was more celebration what he accomplished and how many lives he touched in the world. And we’ll certainly miss him, but… yeah, he’s an amazing man.”

Conan shares his own memories of Leonard Nimoy, back when the actor appeared on The Simpsons.

“He stood for, and stands for, such an ideal,” says Quinto. “He imbued [Spock] with so many of his finest qualities … he was an incredibly generous and thoughtful and talented man. We should all be so lucky to live half as fulfilled a life as he did.”

In the end, Leonard Nimoy lived long and prospered, and that is all any of us can hope to do.
