The status of the Lizzie McGuire revival may be on hold, but we’ll still be getting more Hilary Duff on our screens with a Younger spinoff.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, who first reported the news, the comedy series is currently in early development.

The Younger spinoff is not currently attached to any network, but sources say it could be set at Paramount Network or be shopped to other platforms as part of MTV Studios’ increased focus to sell to outside buyers.

ViacomCBS owns Younger and is reportedly teaming with show creator Darren Star to develop a spinoff that would be built around Sutton Foster’s co-star, Hilary Duff.

Duff has starred as book editor Kelsey on TV Land’s Younger since the pilot episode.

Younger stars Sutton Foster as a 40-something woman who pretends to be in her 20s to land a job in book publishing. The comedy has been a critical hit for TV Land — as well as its lone scripted original series — wrapping up its successful sixth season in September 2019. In addition to Sutton Foster and Hilary Duff, the show also stars Nico Tortorella, Peter Hermann, Miriam Shor, Debi Mazar, Molly Bernard and Charles Michael Davis.

The pilot for the potential spinoff series has yet to be filmed, and it’s currently unknown it episode will air as part of the series’ seventh episode as some kind of backdoor pilot.

Hilary Duff was most recently set to star in a revival of her iconic teen series Lizzie McGuire, which was in early production prior to the industry wide coronavirus shutdown. However, production was shut down amid creative differences led to the dismissal of series creator and showrunner Terri Minsky.

No news on when that show might start up again or how it may affect this planned Younger spinoff series.
