Young Sheldon is adding a new member to its cast for the sitcom’s upcoming third season on CBS.

According to Deadline, actor Craig T. Nelson has officially signed on to star in a recurring role on Young Sheldon season 3.

Nelson, who previously starred on the hit family drama Parenthood, will play the role of Coach Dale Ballard on the hit Big Bang Theory spinoff.

Dale Ballard coaches the town’s little league baseball team, but it’s not Sheldon who’ll be itching to pick up the bat, but his twin sister Missy. The official character synopsis teases that Coach is set to “butt heads with George Sr. about Missy wanting to join the team.

Nelson’s role as Coach Dale Ballard on Young Sheldon will serve as especially perfect casting for those who might remember the actor for his work on the old ABC sitcom, Coach.

The hit series, which ran from 1989 to 1997 found Nelson playing coach to the Minnesota State University Screaming Eagles football team.

We’re sure Nelson’s Coach Dale will be quite a bit different from Coach Hayden Fox. That being said, it’ll be interesting to see how he shakes up the Coopers’ world.

Young Sheldon fans interested in seeing what transpires when Missy (Raegan Revord) tries her hand at little league baseball will have to sit tight.

Though the third season of the series is set to premiere at the end of the month, Nelson’s storyline won’t be introduced until the sixth episode in.

Young Sheldon season 3 premieres via CBS on September 26.
