The next installment of the X-Men franchise, X-Men: Apocalypse, will begin filming in Canada in April.

According to Journel de Montreal, sets will begin being built through the end of this year with the series picking up filming starting in April.

Details about the highly anticipated next sequel to the X-Men franchise have been very scarce after the huge success of this summer’s X-Men: Days of Future Past. This summer’s blockbuster left fans thirsty for more with an after credits scene featuring Apocalypse himself as well as the 4 horseman – all of which are wildly popular elements of the comic book series.

We do know that Bryan Singer, Simon Kinberg, Michael Dougherty and Dan Harris are working on the final script of the movie.

Filming of X-Men: Apocalypse will continue through the rest of 2015, with the movie already slated to be released in theaters on May 27, 2016.

Fans are hoping we will see some origin stories for characters like Scott (Cyclops), Jean (Phoenix) and Storm after mention of their origins during a time jump in X-Men: Days of Future Past. There’s no word on what new mutants or previous generations of mutants will be featured alongside the likes of Mystique, Professor X and Magneto when the movie is released in 2016.
