Gambit, the highly anticipated X-Men spinoff starring Channing Tatum, has officially been set to hit theaters on October 7, 2016.

We found out back in October that Channing Tatum would officially star as Gambit in the X-Men spinoff featuring the Cajun superhero, and the actor has now tweeted the film’s release date.

The studio officially attached Tatum to the role late last year, and it was revealed that he would also be producing the film with his production partner Reid Carolin, along with Lauren Donner and Simon Kinberg.

Channing Tatum has been extremely excited about potentially playing the mutant from down south. Tatum told MTV back in May, “I met with Lauren Shuler Donner. I would love — Gambit’s my really only X-Men that I’ve ever loved. I [mean] I’ve loved them all, they’re all great, [but] I don’t know I guess just being from down south — my dad’s from Louisiana and I’m from Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida — I don’t know I just related to him.”

The 22 Jump Street star wanted Gambit to join the ranks of other X-Men if Fox was willing, and now he’s confirmed that the Gambit solo film will be released October 7, 2016.

Channing Tatum can now be seen in Foxcatcher, which is getting incredible reviews, and has the sci-fi adventure Jupiter Ascending landing in theaters February 6.

While some fans have been skeptical of the actor playing Gambit, as Taylor Kitsch played him in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, we think he’ll do an excellent job. Are you excited that Gambit will be hitting theaters next year?
