French actress Lea Seydoux has reportedly received an official offer to co-star in Gambit, which is an X-Men spinoff starring Channing Tatum as a popular mutant.

While there were rumors that Tatum was exiting the project recently, it seems like everything is back on track, and now it looks like Lea Seydoux will join the film and co-star opposite Channing Tatum.

She would reportedly be playing Bella Donna Boudreaux, the head of the comic’s Assassin’s Guild. She and Gambit were childhood friends, but later realized they were each part of separate rival Guilds. An arranged marriage between them was set in place by their fathers in hopes of uniting the Guilds, but it didn’t work.

THR reports that the actress, who is currently filming the new James Bond film Spectre, has officially received an offer to play the role opposite Channing Tatum, but has yet to accept.

Tatum began negotiations for the role late last year, and it was revealed he would also be producing the film with his production partner Reid Carolin, along with Lauren Donner and Simon Kinberg.

Channing Tatum has been extremely excited about playing the mutant from down south. He told MTV back in May, “Gambit’s my really only X-Men that I’ve ever loved. I’ve loved them all, they’re all great, [but] I don’t know I guess just being from down south — my dad’s from Louisiana and I’m from Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida — I don’t know I just related to him.”

Lea Seydoux is an excellent actress, and we think she would be an incredible addition to the new X-Men spinoff featuring the unique mutant. She’s shown a wide range of acting roles over the last few years, making this an inspired casting choice.

We hope to hear that Seydoux accepts the role soon, as she would certainly add some great elements to Gambit’s film adaptation when it starts production in the next few months.

The Gambit solo film will be released October 7, 2016 and will be directed by Rise of the Planet of the Apes’ director Rupert Wyatt.
