Oscar Isaac will play the titular villain in X-Men: Apocalypse, which features a look at the devastatingly powerful mutant Apocalypse.

Director Bryan Singer has said that X-Men: Apocalypse will be the most destructive X-Men film we’ve ever seen, and now he’s cast the villain in the film who will be responsible for all of the destruction: Apocalypse.

The incredible Oscar Isaac will play Apocalypse in the sequel, who we got a glimpse at in the after-credits scene when X-Men: Days of Future Past hit theaters. We saw a very young version of Apocalypse playing around with some pyramids as he moved the giant blocks with his mind in Egypt. It was a very exciting look at the character, but it was a young actor, and we knew he would always be recast for the new film.

Oscar Isaac has been on the scene for a little while now, but he came into the spotlight in 2013 when he took on an incredible role in Inside Llewyn Davis. He was widely praised for his work in the film as Llewyn Davis, but didn’t quite make his way into an Oscar nomination.

Apocalypse will be a difficult character to portray, given his age and abilities, but Isaac has really become an incredible actor as of late, and we think he was an excellent choice for the villain role in X-Men: Apocalypse.

X-Men: Apocalypse is set to be directed by Bryan Singer, with Simon Kinberg penning the script, and will be released in theaters May 27, 2016. The studio recently announced that filming will begin in Canada this April.
