After much speculation, director Bryan Singer has made The Blob’s appearance in X-Men: Apocalypse official with a behind-the-scenes image.

The image that Singer shared appears to depict Angel just defeating The Blob in a mutant cage match. His caption pokes fun at The Blob’s formidable size: “Mutant Martial Arts. Light as a feather. #MMA #Xmen #xmenApocalypse”

At first glance, The Blob might seem like an easy opponent. However, The Blob can be nearly immovable and his large body mass is like an elastic, which means that his skin is basically impenetrable, even by gunfire.

The Blob also has superhuman strength, endurance, and a great resistance to injury. So even though it looks like The Blob has been defeated in this image, we wouldn’t be surprised if he actually got right back up in the film.

With The Blob being one of the more infamous foes of the X-Men we’re excited to see him return to the big screen. With any luck he will get to appear in the film more than just once, but with all of the other characters appearing that might be a stretch. The Blob hasn’t been depicted in the films since the 2009 version of X-Men Origins: Wolverine. No word yet on who is actually playing the larger than life mutant.

X-Men: Apocalypse is currently scheduled for release on May 27, 2016.
