X-Men: Apocalypse’s official synopsis hints at some changes to the franchise’s timeline due to the events that occurred during X-Men: Days of Future Past. It looks like the X-Men may have a new leader.

This official synopsis was revealed through a marketing tie-in with M&M’s, and has an interesting way of mentioning Raven (played by Jennifer Lawrence) as the leader of the X-Men, along with Professor X. Check out the official synopsis below:

“Since the dawn of civilization, he was worshiped as a god. Apocalypse, the first and most powerful mutant from Marvel’s X-Men universe, amassed the powers of many other mutants, becoming immortal and invincible. Upon awakening after thousands of years, he is disillusioned with the world as he finds it and recruits a team of powerful mutants, including a disheartened Magneto (Michael Fassbender), to cleanse mankind and create a new world order, over which he will reign. As the fate of the Earth hangs in the balance, Raven (Jennifer Lawrence) with the help of Professor X (James McAvoy) must lead a team of young X-Men to stop their greatest nemesis and save mankind from complete destruction.”

We knew there would be timeline changes, since X-Men: Days of Future Past literally erased everything we’ve known from the previous films’ storylines, but Raven taking point for the X-Men is an interesting and exciting change.

We have to imagine Professor X will still be a big part of the X-Men, but it clearly states Raven will be helped by him as they lead the X-Men into the fight to defeat Apocalypse. Lawrence has become a superstar during the release of the last two films, so it’s not surprising to see her being written as the official lead.

We’ve seen Apocalypse already, who is the main villain in the film, and he is an immortal mutant as mentioned in the synopsis. He is a very powerful mutant and reportedly the first mutant which all others have come from. He goes by many names.

This new X-Men film will be chock-full of unique mutants, and we look forward to seeing the young cast tackle the baddest mutant to ever exist. X-Men: Apocalypse will be released May 27, 2016.
