The first official shot of Kodi Smit-McPhee as the X-Men: Apocalypse character Nightcrawler has been released by director Bryan Singer.

X-Men: Apocalypse begins filming today, April 27, and to start things off director Bryan Singer has revealed our first look at Kodi Smit-McPhee as Nightcrawler, a character previously portrayed by Alan Cumming in the second X-Men movie, X2.

Nightcrawler is a member of the fictional sub-species of humanity known as mutants in the X-Men universe. He was born with superhuman abilities, which include superhuman agility, the ability to teleport, and adhesive hands and feet.

His physical mutations also include blue-colored skin, which allows him to sneak around in the shadows. He also has two-toed feet and three-fingered hands, yellow eyes, pointed ears and a prehensile tail. See the first images of him below, including a video of him teleporting:

Kodi Smit-McPhee looks great as a young Nightcrawler, and the video gives us an idea of how he’ll teleport around in the movie. The actor is best known for his role in 2009’s The Road, alongside Viggo Mortensen, and most recently he was seen in Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. His name was also tossed around to play Spider-Man, but wasn’t mentioned in the final five actors recently revealed.

Many new actors have joined X-Men: Apocalypse as mutants, including Lana Condor as Jubilee, Ben Hardy as Angel, and most recently Olivia Munn as Psylocke. This film will be chock-full of new mutants, and we look forward to seeing the young cast tackle the baddest mutant to ever exist. X-Men: Apocalypse will be released May 27, 2016.
