X-Men: Apocalypse writer Simon Kinberg has revealed that Halle Berry, James Marsden, and Famke Janssen won’t be rejoining the cast due to the time in which the sequel will take place.

Today a quote from writer Simon Kinberg has been released during a Q&A which reveals some very interesting details concerning the current cast members.

Kinberg says, “If we included some of the original X-Men, like Storm, Jean, Scott, and others, yeah we would have to recast them, because Apocalypse takes place a good twenty years before “X1,” which now insanely was fifteen years ago. It would be very hard to do.”

He continued, saying, “Halle, Famke, and Jimmy, and others have done such wonderful jobs of bringing those characters to life and they’re so identified, those actors, with the parts now. So it would be a tall task… So, are we going to have to recast? If some of those characters were in the movie we would.”

There were reports that the storyline was going to be in the mid to late ’80s for Apocalypse, so this goes in line with what we’ve been hearing.

We imagine there are some fans who are disappointed to hear that the original actors won’t be returning, but Kingberg still didn’t reveal as to whether their characters would even be in the film.

Director Bryan Singer officially signed on to direct X-Men: Apocalypse earlier this week, which means we should start hearing more official reports concerning X-Men: Apocalypse over the next few months.

When reports of Singer’s involvement were confirmed, a plot synopsis was released about Apocalypse which said the main cast would be, “joined by a young Cyclops, Storm, Jean and others as the X-Men must fight their most formidable foe yet: an ancient unrelenting force determined to cause an apocalypse unlike any in human history.”

So there were already signs that we would be seeing young versions of Scott, Storm, and Jean. But, now it seems their characters will be getting recast instead of using CGI to take the actors back 30+ years.

In X-Men: Days of Future Past we saw Wolverine wake up with a house full of mutants, including Halle Berry as Storm, James Marsden as Cyclops, and Famke Janssen as Jean Grey.

It was exciting to see Famke Janssen back as Jean Grey, as she died in X-Men: The Last Stand after being revealed to be the most powerful mutant to ever grace the big screen.

We were hoping she would have a role in Apocalypse, but the storyline does seem to prevent Janssen from returning to the role, which should take place in the ’80s.

It will be a momentous task replacing actors who have played these characters for nearly 20 years now, but we have some faith as the studio did a great job casting Jennifer Lawrence, James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, and Nicholas Hoult in their respective roles.

It looks as though Hugh Jackman will continue to luck out, since he doesn’t appear to age in the comic or real life, so his job as Wolverine is still safe. But we have to imagine he’s expecting to see a recasting in the future as well.

X-Men: Apocalypse is set to be directed by Bryan Singer, with Simon Kinberg penning the script, and will be released in theaters May 27, 2016.

Who would you like to see replace Storm, Jean, and Cyclops for X-Men: Apocalypse?
