The upcoming X-Men spinoff film, X-Force has officially found its director in Drew Goddard.

According to Vareity, Fox has officially tasked The Martian scribe Drew Goddard to both write and direct it’s forthcoming X-Men entity, X-Force.

The creator of Netflix’s Daredevil will be working alongside Simon Kinberg, Ryan Reynolds, and Lauren Shuler Donner, all of whom have been tapped to produce the project.

X-Force, which exists in the X-Men Universe, will center around mutants Deadpool and Cable, who will team up to lead a Black Ops force of new mutants described as being much more ruthless than any we’ve seen on the X-Men team.

Though there’s currently no release date set for X-Force, fans won’t have to wait for the spinoff to catch a glimpse of Deadpool and Cable in action.

The pair will officially hit the big screen together next summer in Deadpool 2 where Reynolds will reprise his role as the Merc with a Mouth, with Josh Brolin bringing Cable to life.

While casting hasn’t officially been announced for the upcoming X-Men spinoff, we’re expecting both Reynolds and Brolin to reprise their roles as Deadpool and Cable in X-Force.

In addition to Goddard’s film, Fox also has two more films that reside within the X-Men universe coming down the pipeline. X-Men: New Mutants, spearheaded by The Fault in our Stars director Josh Boone, is set to hit theaters in April of 2018. Meanwhile, Simon Winberg’s X-Men: Dark Phoenix is slated for release in November of 2018.
