After almost 15 years off the air, the X-Files is returning in early 2016 with brand new episodes.

Original series creator Chris Carter is reuniting the old gang for a six-episode miniseries, which will pick up Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) and Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson)’s story where we left off.

While The X-Files fans are excited to see what new mysteries the team will be solving, we’re also curious to find out how the relationship between the main characters will develop.

This new short teaser puts the spotlight on Mulder and Scully, and their undeniable chemistry:

Appearing on The Nerdist Writers’ Panel to discuss the new show, Chris Carter admitted that fans always wanted more Mulder/Scully interaction, and that the mythology episodes ended up being the ones that evolved the relationship between the characters (which eventually turned romantic).

The six new episodes, Carter revealed, will be heavily focused on the mythology, which of course means the relationship between our two agents will take center stage. We can’t wait!

Also returning for The X-Files miniseries event are Mitch Pileggi as Skinner, William B. Davis as the Smoking Man, Annabeth Gish as Monica Reyes, Nicholas Lea as Alex Krycek, and the Lone Gunmen.

Community star Joel McHale will appear in a new role, playing Mulder’s contact Tad O’Malley. Robbie Amell has recently been cast as Agent Miller, with Lauren Ambrose as Agent Einstein.
